Jons Workbench D63xx Baby Warship

Good evening -
well my last build was a D6xx - 'Bulldog' (anyone spot it at Telford?)

and next on the bench is its little brother - a D63xx - Baby warship -
The kit represents one of the Pilot scheme batch of 63xx's and correctly has retooled sides and roof to portray all the detail differences found on the first handful of baby warships - otherwise , it builds up like a standard class 22 kit. There's still the slightly awkward build sequence of having to attach the cabs to the body after painting and glazing them, but the join is well hidden by door shutlines and roof panels.
I've altered the bufferbeam sockets (spares from the D6xx kit) and some of the bogie sideframe pipework as these areas are a little different on the pilot scheme locos - the water tanks will be a similar story but I'm still researching those - there's certainly some detail to add to the ends of the tanks but again this seems to vary between locos - that's why we love 'em isn't it ?

apparently this is the only JLTRT pilot scheme '22 kit in existence at the moment - so hopefully some pictures will chance that - its a lovely little loco.

Jon,
I assure you it's not the only one of the pilot batch. My kit (for D6303) was picked up from Laurie at Telford in 2016.

Still working on springing and drive, which is why it's not been seen on here yet!

Thats good news - will have to tell JLTRT that they've sold twice as many as they thought :) This ones going to be D6302 - bit of a shame its wont be blue to match its big brother...

Hi Jim - now, a 21 would finish the 'set' off nicely wouldnt it , Im not sure if JLTRT have considered one to be honest - Ive never even thought to ask , but someone must have?
Looks-wise the 21s never seemed right to me - the relatively modern looking commonwealth style bogies (to my eyes anyway) seemed to clash with the rather arcane body styling. They did look great with 'ploughs on though :) ploughs are always good!

They sold one to me as well, so that's three then... Still working on the drive also based on Steph's gearboxes and my own UJ drive shafts and single centre motor drive set-up a la prototype.

Just in time for Christmas - D6302 - I didn't want to go too mad with the weathering - with a D63xx it is very tempting to go for the fully beaten and battered look, but as the model represents the loco early in life, as built - pre headcode boxes, it wouldn't have been in too much of a state at that point. Went together a dream - my only change was to omit the cast brass handrails - instead I used Nickel silver wire - and luckily I didn't throw away the jig i made for D602 in order to form the little 'kink' where the handrail follows the body profile -
Ta for now!
