Leigh Show

Chris and I went along to Leigh show today and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and aside from collecting a CopperII from EDM models that I had reserved I only spent £8 - on some push pull castings from Jim McGeown.

We got the impression that there were not as many layouts/traders as there were last year bt that might have been because it was laid out differently giving a spacious feel to the hall. I bumped in to Mike Cole and Warren and spent a good while talking to Mike Osborne who was demoing scratch building wagons.
From Mike I picked up quite a few tips for making crown plates among other things. I also got a look at the Fletcher 901 that Ian Rathbone painted - he showed the painting stages on a thread on the guild forum. We were particularly interested because of Chris doing as painting of it. Both the model and the paint job are excellent.

The bring and buy didn't have much on it this year - perhaps a sign of the times but the E&T was well stocked but I managed to resist.

I also noted that fellow member Barry (LankyTank) is now mr Metalsmith having taken over the sheet and sections part of Dave Smith's range - handy for me because he doesn't live far from me so it will see me postage costs. I wish Barry and His good lady every success in their new venture.

I have heard a few moans and groans on other forums about the show at Leigh but to us it's an excellent show and far better than the new venue for the show that was Bolton (now Manchester) O Gauge show. Long may it continue
