Lionheart Tankers.

Hi all..

Has anyone here invested in the new very lovely looking Lionheart tank wagons?

Im not sure from the description if the axles boxes are sprung or solid. If they are sprung, does it look easy enough to get the wheels out to re-profile to S7?

Many thanks,

JB.

Ah okay, thanks Mike..

I'll keep an eye out. When they come through it'll be interesting to see if the widths between the solebars allow s7 wheelsets too as the frames are die cast and will no doubt short out if the wheels touch..

I ordered one of the Lionheart tanks online a while ago and asked for S7 wheels but it arrived with finescale wheels. One thing the finescale wheels have is full front and rear profile. I am not sure if there is a S7 version of these wheels as the only Lionheart S7 wheels I have came with some mineral wagons and have flat backs. I decided to modify the wheels to S7, the first task is to press the centres back so the back of the centre lines up with the back of the flange. I turned a piece of brass tube so I could push the outer part of the centre using the small 1 ton press to minimise the stress on the casting. Then I made a disk with a 3mm axle and a peg to fit through one of the holes in the wheels and faced off the tyres in the lathe. I decided not to reduce the flange as it would take the plating off the brass. The flanges are narrow enough for this not to be a problem in S7 but they do look larger than a proper S7 flange. I might reduce them yet. I think the profiled back is a noticeable improvement. The brakes line up perfectly but did need a little scraped off the back to provide clearance. Still unweathered, I think I will have to do something about the mould joint line across the upper part of the tank, it is a plate joint part of the length but not all the way.

Yes my tanker also arrived with fine scale rather than the S7 wheels requested. Have made a number of contacts with Richard regarding this and most recently (ALSRM @ Reading) understood that his stock of S7 wagon wheels is due to be replenished this July. Having returned the FS wheel sets I now have a wagon with no wheels at all!

I think the wheel sets only differ in gauge - the tyre profile used being suitable for both FS and S7?

No, the same cast wheel centres are used and the same 3mm diameter pointed end axles but the plated brass rims/tyres are quite different. The S7 tyres are a nice scale profile while the others are quite a bit wider and with deeper flanges. If you try to set the finescale wheels at S7 back to back the insulating bushes and hub protrude beyond the ends of the straight part of the axle so they won't fit between the bearings. Hence the need to push the centres to the back face of the tyres. You might be able to get away with leaving the wide tyre but I haven't tried it.

Thanks. I recall having a conversation with RW but couldn't recall exactly what he'd said about them.
