Yes it looks great, I particularly like the shot of it buffered up to the Hymek  . I still wish Heljan would produce one though

The Hymek needs some work, but it can wait as at least its a finished loco
Im looking forward to seeing a bit of paint on D1011

Is D1011 going to be MSYP & the Hymek remain GSYP & have decided which one ? & will they be weathered?

    Cheers Phill

Yes MSYP, the hymek will stay GSYP I haven't decided which one yet.
I am trying to stick to the 62-68 timeframe, I especially like the maroon to blue transition there is a shot in one of the books of MFYP Spartan leaving kingswear with a mixed rake of maroon and BG  i would like a bit of SR steam thrown in as well  which is why I have been looking at the West London joint, Winchester and the Withered Arm :D I really need to build some more stock before starting any layout.....

I liked always MFYP for Westerns & Warships    , I always think the full yellow panel suits Westerns well. I like your idea for the layout, some very tired looking re-built or un-rebuilt Bullied's hauling the mixed rakes of the time would look great along side the Hydraulics IMO :D

Tonights exciting instalment is the training bogie brake gear, i thought this would take about 45 minutes....wrong......double that
The instructions could be clearer on this and I ended working most of it out from photos. I glad I did this bogie first and not the power bogie  everything is just pressed in place for the moment as there are a few holes to be filled etc. I was a little worried about one of the center shoes not being in line with the wheels but when I fitted the bolster It wasnt visible.
The bogie will need to be painted before final fixing and fitting the pull rods i also have a couple of extras in mind........

I had the same concerns when I did mine, but like you say, with the central bolster in place, it's no longer an issue. :)

Apologies for the non-S7 wheels in this shot - it's not a recent photo.

I did find the brass strips that link the brake hangers very prone too damage and can't help thinking Nickel Silver would have been a better material in this instance. Perhaps I should get some etched for the next Western I build? Better still, perhaps we should lobby JLTRT to make them from Nickel Silver in the first place? ;)

I'm off work this week and I'm hoping to do a little more work on "Rifleman", so depending on what I actually do, there may be a few pictures soon!

Eileens will probably have some suitable N/S for the pull rods. Still anything is better then the plasticard in the instructions
How is the compensation coming on?

I hadn't thought of using N/S strip - trust me to over-complicate things. I'll try and get some at Kettering and retro fit it to the brake hangers, before completing the bogies.

The compensation seems to work well on the first bogie thanks (as do the split-axles). If I do get any modelling done this week, I'll probably aim to get the other bogie up to the same stage. I forgot to take a couple of pictures of the build sequence when doing the first one, so need to get these second time round, in order to be able to show how it was done. Once the bogies are back on, I can think about installing the sound chip and wiring-up the smoke unit. Stay tuned! :)

Was there any connection between the 2 sides of brakes? I can't quite see in any pictures.
I need to work out how to fit the sandpipes at some point. I don't see any mention in the instructions

I imagine there must be on the prototype, but luckily for us, it's hidden in the gloom behind the front valance. :)

I'd be interested to see your solution to the sandpipe conundrum, as it's something I've been avoiding so far.... ;)

I must dash - I have some plasterboard to put up in the bathroom. :|

If it's anywhere near the bath or shower I would use Hardibacker or similar :D

What is the unit connected to the white piping?
It needs to be fitted whatever it is
I have found a pic of the connection between each side of the brakes, but I also saw an ATC shoe at the same time which is actually just visible in the profile view.....

Tonight I have been doing steps, a bit of a tedious job, but one I thought best to get done as i would probably rush it later on  I used a similar method to Dan, pinning the steps with .9mm wire. They are rock solid even at this stage with out any glue, I wont fit them permanently until they have been dipped in metal black.
This is a bit of an unglamorous mod, but IMHO an essential one.

Another quick sand and blow with primer and the cab looks good for final detailing. the final coat of primer will be white but I find grey better fro spotting blemishes. looking at the pictures the headcode box looks slightly off square so a quick rub with the sanding stick is on order :D Oh and there is a bit round the cab window
