[quote=""28ten"":3t8yepc3]Big moment today, I got some paint on the ends :D Its just the first coat of Railmatch acrylic yellow, but what a difference.
I will give a second coat tomorrow evening, which hopefully will give the colour sufficient density. then I can paint the window surrounds and glaze the cab

It's a great feeling when the first splash of colour goes on - well done.

Is it still going to be maroon with small yellow panels, or have you changed your mind?

To fit with with what I have in mind Blue FYP, the next one will be Maroon FYP  I was undecided until I sprayed the ends and as soon as I saw it i wanted FYP and D1011 went straight from MSYP to BFYP in 68.

This is the sort condition I am after

Looking a this last night I decided that u didn't really like the joint between the topfeed and the pipe cover as it exits the topfeed, so I have ordered some square brass to build a replacement. I do like to make work for myself....

Better to find out now though Cynric, rather than once it's painted. :)

True! It's a good kit but the quality of the castings has been a bit of a let down for ?300 as I have replaced half of them

The first hint of colour has gone on the cab interior, im keeping everything pretty subdued as its supposed to be a working loco. there is a slight blemish on one of the cab fronts that heeds sanding, but other than that the yellow went on in two coats. I ended up using Tamiya Flat Aluminum for the window frames. next stop will be fixing the glass, then some more work on the cab interiors

That was a brave move - much respect and I look forward to the "re-assembly"

Next step is to get some round formers for the boiler one method would be to cut them - but I have a lathe  *** tool alert *** and this is how i make circular formers...

That's quite some "Gentleman's Activity Bunker" there!!!  [/quote:zqg3i9vu]
I have been building kits for at least 20 years, so there is a tendency to acquire stuff! Good tools last, and I made the rolling bars 15 years ago and they dont exactly wear out
I do build the odd kit or three to comission, so it has largely funded the purchases over the years, and I admit I am a tool-aholic
when you get the chassis parts sorted, I'll get the chassis jig out!

Very impressive  , do they adjust for different metal thickness's ? & did you cut your own gears for the rollers
Phill

Guv'nor
Yes they adjust for different thickness material and different radius, no I didn't make the gears they came out of a scrap box! I keep meaning to make new longer rollers to roll coach roofs etc

the result.....the fittings are just loosely screwed in place at present, this boiler will be attached by one screw in the smokebox - so it will slide out for painting  I must admit I do have doubts about refitting the topfeed, its much more cute without

Nice work Cynric - I like the way you made the boiler formers on the lathe.

Looks like this'll be ready for the paintshop soon, though I have to say, I prefer the 14xx with the topfeed. ;)

I'm with you Guv regarding the top feed
Fantastic piece of work though, I'm hugely impressed
As you mentioned on back on page 2, I'm finding it hard to resist the 1/32 version on offer! Its just the price that makes me whince a bit, it costs more than I've spent on the Pannier and the line combined  Still, should they come down at all, my resistance is likely to falter....

is the 1/32 actually a goer? tell me more
It will be 1470, which acquired a topfeed in '56, the GW green non topfeed Circa 51 version is a favorite of mine, but i will be going back to D1011 now as there is a chance I might have that running for the S7 Warley bash

Sorry Guv, got me wires crossed there
I did try to raise some interest in an MOK 14xx in 1/32, but to no avail unfortunately. Now that the Tower / Finescale Brass one is available RTR (which is what I thought you were refering to) for a similar price, I think it unlikely we will see a kit to MOK's standard. Shame really, but I still do fancy a 14xx in 1/32

I have got back to work on D1011 with the help of my assistant :D the desk is in the process of being weathered and the controls have been dipped in metal black. I have gone for a slightly green-grey rather than white grey which i think is a bit harsh, similarly the conduits are a dark orange.
