I hate to be a clever sod (well actually I dont:p), but that's not a compartment:)

My recollection of them is they were quite dingy, probably dark red or dark green moquette, but it's also likely that different materials were used on later builds or on shopping.

Rob, wasn't that the fabric for the Blue/Grey era ?

I am trying to see some research now & from what I've found so far dingy dark red & green have come as has a sort of browney red floral patern, but I'm still looking....I want something authentic that will show up well against the maroon interior:)

I would have assumed the walls were wood inside the compartments, but I have seen white Formica walls on some.....so I will probably go with that as it will show up well.

Anymore contributions most welcome :)

From memory, what's left of it, the seats were covered in a darkish reddish moquette. I don't remember much in the way of a pattern, but that with the brown wood finish of everything else made them rather gloomy. Only the First Class compartments (blue) had the antimacassars.

Essentially, the early Mk 1s were much like the late grouping stock that preceded them - hardly surprising really!

Yeah, it's all coming back now - early ones had wood panelling (some with the little signs saying what wood it was:cool:) - the later ones with Formica were probably those with the ally window frames and Commonwealth bogies

Just to confirm this, on p87 of Mk1 coaches there is a shot of a refurb interior with 'stark blue and white' upholstery and antimacassars with Ally window frames.

Mk1 interiors is very much on my radar at the moment so keep the pictures coming :)

Been trawling the tinterwebbly for pics but nothing yet:headbang:.

I guess it also depends on period, the pic i posted was used in some SK's during the early 70's. But as the Mk1 book states they used several types/colours of coverings:confused:
