Well the chairs were waiting for me when I got back from York yesterday afternoon. There was a happy bonus in that the kind seller had included an envelope full of recovered individual chairs. Now they can be a bit of a bugger to use when they're off the sprue, but at the very least they'll do very nicely as wagon loads for my demolition train.

Yer still building it why'd ya want to demolish it :)) :))

Splendid, at least someone's awake. It's the plan for the branchline, aka phase two or the bit I haven't got around to yet. The initial concept for the branch was that the line went off stage to a quarry, after a period of indecision the branch resurfaced as a built extension to Morfa (still serving the quarry) but over the last six months or so the branch is deemed to be under demolition enabling me to run a variety of demolition trains up and down it. far more interesting than the quarry concept methinks. More on this later.

You'll have to cut the keys out - ask Mr. Cook about this.

Not much to report from my playroom; mopped up the floor where puss missed when he wazzed, wafted some rust coloured auto primer over half the chairs that arrived via ebay, took a few snaps then tootled back downstairs to the warmth of the kitchen.

I rather like how this picture has turned out; some mild cropping but no other digital jiggery pokery employed.

Lovely photo. If the board top was white then it would seem like it was traversing past a frozen river on a winters day  ;) well it does to me anyway!

I can vouch for that

I've been spending the festive yuletide season sensibly so far this year. The last two days I've deployed my expertise in feng shui, aka tidying up, and my playroom is returned to the sort of state where I can contemplate getting on with stuff. Dust had gathered most places, and as i'd cleaned off the worst from Morfa's platform hut I thought I'd pop it on the bench and take a photo of it.

It's a simple scratchbuild, plasticard and yet more plasticard. The only out of the ordinary bit was hot forming the barrel roof. Corrugated plasticard cut to width but over length, coiled round inside a suitably curved jam jar, and after the jar had been warmed to avoid shattering due to thermal shock boiling water poured in. Coiling plastcard on the inside of tins and jars avoids any need for fixing.

I'm also afraid to report the demise of the ten inch tripod; guess which clumsy twit tried to telescope the legs with far too much vigor. Off now to see if e-bay have a replacement.

A while ago I promised a bit more on the concept of the branch undergoing demolition. Well last year my mate Martin got hold of a truly splendid railway DVD. I have to say that most railway DVDs leave me rather cold, but this one didn't. Partly because its focus is on Wales and mainly mid Wales at that, but mainly because it features one of the saddest and yet most beautiful pieces of railway footage I've ever seen taking a journey from Morfa Mawddach to Llanwchllyn on a train of empties for the demolition contractors. It struck me that this would actually provide more wagon variety than the quarry traffic I had originally planned, so stand by for bogie bolsters loaded with rail and assorted opens for sleepers and chairs.

The DVD is 'Welsh Byways', a Tennents Trains production. If you can get hold of or are able to borrow a copy then I recommend you do so. In the meantime here are a few screen shots to whet the appetite.

Edit: Just found some Yootooob footage of , bit of a bummer that there's no sound as ten coaches behind a 24 used to produce a good racket from up front. Happy days.

Just found some Yootooob footage of Cambrian 24s, this time over Talerddig, bit of a bummer that there's no sound as ten coaches behind a 24 used to produce a good racket from up front. Happy days.

Maybe, but not so evocative as a pair of Manors at full regulator and little cut off barking up Talerdig!
happy days indeed!

I agree with both sentiments but the small diesel working hard with 10 on shows some real thrash

I thought it would make sense to place a copy of Morfa's plan here as well as in the layout design thread, part of my new neat and tidy approach.

To ameliorate the danger of boredom due to repatition, here are a couple of new photos of a freight coming off the branch. I've tried roughing out the scenery a little with some hanging basket liner and a Scalescenes freebie building given away with one of the early Hornby mags. Looking at the photos if I'm to use hanging basket liner on the finished article then I'm going to have to put in some work to stop it resembling the mouldy gorilla minge apparent in the first snap.
