Hi there. I've just joined the forum as my decision making is obviously getting worse with advancing age. I decided to purchase a Finney7 Princess Coronation when they were re-launched. Dikitricki introduced me to the forum. At the moment the Duchess is still boxed and will stay that way for some months to come as I am rather accupied with other things. I mainly model the Midland Railway In North West England in 7mm. My first layout ws Long Preston, now retired, and my current project is Lancaster (Green Ayre) set in 1923 and including the electrification. Most of my Long Preston stock was re-usable on Green Ayre but I have had to scratch build the Midland design EMU's that entered service in 1908 running of 6.6Kv AC at 25Hz. The bodies are from plasticard but I have had to build the motor bogies from scratch. I did my own etchings for the bogie frame and then came across ABC's marvellous traction motors.

Here's the first motor bogie rigged up to test it.

This shows the very neat traction motors mounted on Slater's Finney tender wheel axles, just like the prototype that used tender wheels to save the cost of a new wheel pattern.

I've now started to add some detail to the etches. Here the tender axleboxes made from parts from a mixture of castings to get the correct size.
At the other end of the car I've used a standard Slater's coach bogie modifies with pick ups fitted and spoked wheels rather than solid, again as per the prototype.

{'ve since replaced the NS wire with phosphor bronze strip.
Hope that this is of interest.

Thanks Steph. I actually used spring castings of one type plus the LSWR castings with bits cut off then araldited the four pieces on to look as near to the original as I could get. I'm hoping to have the 3 car set running on the layout at Warley this year.
