Hi all. This is still progressing and come up with something new to run as a little oddity. As you know I paint a mate builds but this is a Class 487 Waterloo and City. Resin cast body with a nickel silver etch overlay. Lucky enough to own a laser cutter and used the overlay CAD to cut a mask from frisket to make the rather complex silver lining pattern much easier to paint (Alclad whit alluvium with BR Blue). Left as gloss at the moment for numbering - obviously needs weathering and matting down, and bogies of course) but really happy with this as a 1st attempt.

So, where does the kit(?)/bits come from? I've always liked these and should one become available...

Hi mate. This is scratch built by us. it would be possible to produce it as a garage kit I suppose, leave that with me.

Radley Models do one in 7mm. Dunno whether he does a 4mm version or not. However he's a nice chap and reacts positively to a proven demand. Might be worth a try?

I'm posting to this thread because I saw Shelvington at Scaleforum at the weekend and met Lee (Celticwardog) and Matt (I think not on here).

I have to say that it is one of the very best model railways that I have ever seen in my life, a work of true genius with a near unique combination of artistry and technical brilliance (in my opinion).

On top of the model railway itself, Matt has created a working "Solari" train describer, linked to the operation of the trains. Words cannot really do justice to the utter brilliance of this, there were some technical glitches early on that meant it wasn't in operation but by Sunday it was performing flawlessly.

It is based around an Arduino and everything is made from scratch. The flaps themselves are made from Plastikard and although Matt said he was contemplating rebuilding it with metal flaps to improve the noise, it sounded just right to my ears.

If you get the chance to see it then do, a work of genius on so many levels and they plan to extend it too - it very deservedly won the Ken York trophy at Scaleforum.

Do you know if there are any construction details anywhere for the split flap display?
