You missed out the Kings on your list of mainline engines running from Paddington to Wolverhampton. I believe that they were the mainstay of the heaviest two trains to Brum.

Phil, I used to like Kings a lot, was pulled by one of them many times between Snow Hill and London. Leaning out the window at 80mph through Denham was a treat! But the Castle is better proportioned in my opinion, more like a greyhound.

Stafford Road shed was often visited back then, always a King or two. One time I got hauled before the Superintendent for my troubles but managed to get away unscathed. I used to get there from Low Level by taking the canal towpath. That was pretty grim back then!
