Thought I'd start this for my own stuff.
We start with four almost complete wagons. Bits of their construction were posted elsewhere. They just need a bit of oil staining added here and there, there loads, and the cattle wagons lid fitting on.

First off the Syconotsobrite anymore.

Next up what was the Thomas the tank blue to start with. For a rather dodgy resin kit I'm pleased with the result.

Next is the Stevenson Clarke wagon. I must get a few more of these but older styles.

IMG_20190207_141532498.jpg

Finally the NE cattle. Not 100% sure about the roof but it's not bright white anymore.

More soon I hope.

Thomas still needs his face doing, and a stencil for the number. But he is running now without jump leads.

I really don't know why it sounds like an electric tin opener, it's not that noisy in real life. Although I hope I can make it quieter, some weights in the tanks might help.

Thought I ought to add some of my own stock. My main era of modelling is early 1930's ex LSWR/SR.

Here is a scratch built G6 finished in lined black livery. This was actually built as part of a RMweb build a loco challenge. And so to make it a challenge to build I scratch built inside working motion. This was fun as I only have hand tools here. It was also an experiment to see if I could do it, as I have a super heated 700 kit to build which will look naked with nothing between the frames.

Castings mainly come from Laurie, some from stock of unknown provenance. Canon motor, unsure of the gears and mount, and wheels from Slater's.

It a lovely slow running loco, which is a bit of a suprise, as the old duette is on its last legs and needs replacing.

Not exactly for me, but for a member of the family.

I have finally made a face for Thomas. Sculpting is not one of my strong points but I think it will pass muster.

IMG_20190527_225529576.jpg

Do you think the new owner will notice that his dad isn't that good at making faces, well model ones anyway.

I have numbered the loco, but some idiot forgot to take the photo. So here are slightly older ones.

Pete,

I would say your sculpting efforts are considerably more successful than some of the 12” scale ones I saw when my kids were the same age as your little man.

Will you glue it on, or could you arrange a magnet?

I built a Mavis (reworked Atlas) for my lad, and a Toby (plasticard on Lima bogie) for my girl (that build was in the Gazette) some 15 years back. I didn’t even try to do the faces! We still have the locos, they don’t run often, and sadly the Atlas has a cracked gear.

Happy days, with three repainted Big Big minerals and a Lima toad, all fitted with oversize 3-links.

Best

Thanks
I will glue, I have magnets on a shopping list for the UK, but not very high up.

I'll have a look at the gazette on line. Be interesting to read.

I have used a fairly slow running motor and high gears, so it does not go to quickly, so he can't do to much damage when the layout is running.

DCC is the answer there! VMAX set to something non destructive, and ACC & DEC set to allow rapid response to the controls.

At that time, I was sparky, bottlewasher & fixer for my late pal, Ken Stansfield’s Swanage layout. The moderate behaviour of the locos meant my little darlings could be allowed out to play there too, which was something of a win!

Thomas just needs his face glueing on properly, just held with a bit of double sided tape moment. Apart from that he's finished. I'm pleased with the way it's turned out. Given the trials of wrong paints etc, mostly through not paying enough attention. Lessons learnt.

Now need to find a couple of 4 wheeled coaches for Tom to pull. Not had much luck on fleabag, might have to bite the bullet and get a couple Jim.

Now for a little picture overload.

Need to make an oversized lamp for it too.

Thanks nick,

I'd tried a couple of people on Shapeways, one didn't answer and one said yes it could be done in 7mm then when I sent the size information nothing. These again just look to be 4mm.

This is a very long term project. It's been on the bench best part of 4years. It's a scratch built exLSWR 0395 class, little brother to the 700 class for which I have a Shedmaster kit.

But at least we are on to the lining now. Excuse the monster look but it was the only way to keep boiler cab unit in a sensible position.
The lining stands out about as well as the prototype. I've used dark green which according to the books was changed to a more of an emerald green. But I thought it was better to use dark on this an older prototype.

A little bit further with the 0395. Reassemble has started ready for transfers and varnish. I've managed to lose the reversing rod. So that's a job for August after our holiday.
I need to do a couple of adjustments to get the loco body to sit properly, its just a little tight on the motor. Need a blackhead from Laurie whilst in UK. The one I had is now in my G6.

Not long back from the UK. I have brought bits back that I'd been collecting for a while from your favourite auction site and other places. Lots of little castings and parts to keep the spares boxes topped up. I also got a few bits for me and possible sell ons.
First up some W irons for 6 wheelers and wagons. These are from Ambis.
IMG_20190809_144557508.jpg
IMG_20190809_144545284.jpg

No excuse now for not doing a few more scratch builds. I almost feel an LSWR 6 wheel milk van coming on.
Another for me is an EX LSWR circle corridor 3rd etch. To go with a brake 3rd and composite already in the cupboard.

IMG_20190809_144403755.jpg

Then there's a microscale 40 foot brake. Which was bought on speck. Paint needs stripping so will probably end up as a kit as lots of glue is involved. Who does Dean bogies or did they end up on different ones?

IMG_20190809_144824383.jpg

Another for me a DJB kit of a 48 foot LSWR fruit and parcels van.

IMG_20190809_144332526.jpg

Then some wagons all need some all need some work. Not sure about the S&D one as it's scratch built with odd rivets. The S&C just needs a set of transfers. I really wanted older S&C wagons. There's also a Janick SR fitted van, this is an old old one with wooden sides and white metal ends.

IMG_20190809_144455266.jpg
IMG_20190809_144535227.jpg

I got a couple of new second hand controllers, as the old duette is almost past it's sell by date. So now I have something for the test track that does not need prodding and poking to work smoothly.
IMG_20190809_145024225.jpg

I can't be a###d to picture the small stuff, plus would probably be even more boring.

Long time without posting. I've not done a lot for myself until recently.
Here's a bit of a catch up.
This is an old jannick kit for a fitted SR van of 1935

Basic frames and brakes.

IMG_20210324_164207706_resize_63.jpg
IMG_20210325_223935045_resize_86.jpg

The basic box. I cut a new ply floor as the kit one was rough as old boots. A couple of spacers to stop squashing it when picking up.

IMG_20210327_220352025_resize_52.jpg

Then the details were added many not in the kit. The kit was good for its time, but I would not of been happy without adding some bits that I thought were important to its look.

IMG_20210403_220138665_resize_41.jpg
IMG_20210403_220153650_resize_63.jpg

As you can see there were quite a few bits added that join the body to the frames.

The aluminium roof was a pain. It had been shaped, but the shape was wrong, or I should say different to the end profile.

Here we are with a coat of primer, finally brings it all together.

IMG_20210404_221416358_resize_55.jpg

This is where we are now. After a coat of Railmatch SR brown.

IMG_20210410_161352326_resize_23.jpg

Next the black for the iron work under the solebars, and grey for the roof. It will have the large SR as the early ones were painted in this livery rather than the 5" letters.
