Put your name down for MMP Class 08 S7 Axles have arrived

Good morning,

I am currently building a MMP Class 08 kit that I could purchase recently. It came without wheels, so I ordered Slaters wheels 7854/08. Now I noticed that these wheels set are maufactured for the more recent JTRT kits. It appears that the axles are too short for the MMP kit and are lacking the D-shaped axle ends.
After a lot of searching I found this thread and wanted to ask if some kind soul has kept their old axles and would be willing to sell them.
I am looking for the old sets for the MMP kit for "Finescale", not "Scale7".

best regards,
Michael

Michael,
You could perhaps use Slater's or JLTRT cranks and the new wheelsets. I don't think there's a hard and fast reason to stick with the MMP ones, providing you change them as a full set.
As an alternative, and if Col @eastsidepilot can oblige, I had a nice set machined in steel for another project. Col, have you still got the templates?

Steph,

thanks for the reply. I cannot compare the MMP with the JLTRT axles, but it appears that the distance between the machined flats that take the cranks is too short. This means that the cranks would possibly touch the axle-box. I will need to proceed with the build and see how everything fits together. In worst case, I would have to make longer axles. As I don't have the necessary machine, this would be quite expensive.
Adapting the D-shaped holes in the MMP cranks to the square shaped JLTRT axples would be possible, but it would require careful positioning to guarantee free movement.
This is why I had the idea to ask here if somebody has the old (replaced) axles in some forgotten storage. It would certainly be the simplest solution.

Hmm, I understand what you're saying but with the chunky JLTRT sideframes it would surprise me if the new axles and cranks were narrower than the old.

It might be worth dropping Col a PM here on WT as I know the parts he did for me were right.
