Ready to run 1/32 Mk 1 Coaches

Trevor has just uploaded a video featuring the pre-production samples of his Mk 1 coaches on to Youtube:

Although you can't really see any detail they look better than they do in the photographs on the G1MC site. In fact I'd say they look very good, more convincing than painted Tower examples to my eyes.

Talking to Simon Whenmouth at the Llanfair show, Trevor fully intends to go ahead with further types next year:thumbs:

Must keep laying track.....

More pictures of these early "test batch" coaches have appeared in the latest "Garden Rail" magazine, and they do look good to my eyes.

The write up says they will come with roller bearings fitted and that new types (FO) will come out next year. That said they mis-describe the two types being produced, so it's perhaps not clear what type will be added next year. Corridor connecting gangways will also be fitted to the coaches (missing off these early test models)

Hopefully I'll be able to buy them when I visit the G1 AGM in November, seeing these out on my line is going to be a big step forwards in my miniature Withered Arm recreation ambitions:)

My understanding is that Trevor is pretty happy with the "test" coaches and production will be started so the AGM is looking hopeful Simon although as ever stuff from China seems to get delayed for many reasons, cheers Rob

Trevor had some production coaches at the G1MRA AGM at Woking on Saturday. We are apparently weeks away from the main delivery landing in the UK.

I got up close and was able to handle one too, I managed a few snaps:)

There are a few issues, but overall I think he's done a great job and I'm deeply impressed, especially for the price.

The most obvious issue is the "plinth" that the bottom edge of the body sits on, but I'm sure some bodging with a craft knife and a bit of jiggery pokery will sort that out.

I can't wait to get my mitts on them:thumbs:

Wow! Impressive.

Okay, obvious points - to me at least! First, the brake vans load of 21 tons? 2-1/2 is more like it.;) Second, on the van section, there ought to be a T-handle on the left-hand door of each pair.

Of course, if these are issues already being dealt with then "as you were".

The glazing would annoy me, but then once a rake is hurtling round a garden behind an impressive loco, I don't suppose it'll be that obvious.

What we see is what we get I think Heather, and yes the 21 ton brake van load made us giggle too.

My picture highlights the prismatic effects of the moulded glazing, but as you say this will be less of an issue out in the garden, and it also shows the effort that has been put into avoiding deeply inset glazing - which would have been a much worse "sin" I think. And then for the future there is that nice man at Shawplan....

I was looking at them stood alongside none other than Fred Phipps on Saturday. I think he said he thought that the ventilator section of the main windows started too high up and were therefore too narrow, although my eyes struggle to see a problem here. I think the door windows may be a tad wide. But the side profile convinces and I think the shade of green is spot on.

They are going to look mighty impressive behind D6319 out in the garden:)

Simon,

I wonder how the look would be improved if you ran a black marker pen round the "sides" of the window mouldings. I milled some Perspex windows for a 7mm coach a year or so ago and running a black marker round the machined edges got rid of the prismatic effect caused by the milled sides of the Perspex..

Jim.

There are some compromises but hopefully they will at least make 1/32nd scale engines pulling 10mm coaches a thing of the past, cheers Rob

Just noticed an update on Trevor's website, it is hoped that they will be arriving in the UK during the 2nd week of February, cheers Rob

I spotted that too, I wonder if they are re-rating the carrying capacity of the brake ends:))

Used fivers and scalpel at the ready...

Hi Steve, blue and grey has not been offered, later this year there should be individual carriages for sale, hopefully if enough ask then it might be possible to twist Trevor's arm into doing some, cheers Rob

Good news Robert, they are actually on their way - and heading for Felixstowe and Mickoo as well:thumbs:

They haven't been done in blue and grey, Trevor's focus is steam although hopefully he'll widen options later.

Take a look on his page for details.

As for repainting Southern Region green into blue and grey - words fail me!
