Nice work Rob

I built one of these about ten years ago and messed the tank up so I ended up binning it. If I do another I will definately roll a brass tank as it looks a million times better.

Besides getting back to the A3 I have also just completed this Parkside Dundas fitted LNER Cattle wagon - I do need to swap the couplings for screw ones though these are what came with the kit and I haven't others in stock at the moment.

it's the first 7mm Parkside Kit I have done and I am impressed especially with the brakes.

Thanks CME, I hope when I get to painting them that I can capture some of your weathering techniques.

Next off the Slaters production line is a MR/LMS 6 Wheeled Brake Van.

I started this last Friday while up at the cottage and finished it during the last couple of days in between preparing my garage for having French doors fitted (I managed to fill yet another skip - where does it all come from?).

I upgraded the basic kit (a cheap eBay buy) with sprung W irons, a stove for the interior and a cast brake standard. I have also added one of Slaters LMS lamps that I had in stock.

Hmm, I like that Rob!  Reminds me I've got a couple of those 6-wheel 'vans to do as Ex-SECR vehicles...

Neat job on the underworkings too!

Thanks Guys, it was a very enjoyable kit to build with a bit more to it than initially meets the eye. I am certainly going to get some practice with the air brush when I get to painting all these!

The French doors are in Mike. It all came together surprisingly well. We had some flooring fitted in our porch and the guy had to come back to finish off on Wednesday. While he was there I asked him for a quote to do the garage floor and he asked what we were doing with the garage door. I told him he could have it if he came and took it off on the morning that we were having the French doors fitted (I didn't have a date at this point) to which he agreed. I then got a phone call later in the day to ask if they could come on Thursday to fit them so I had a panicked phone call to the flooring guy and managed to get it all sorted. The garage door was off and away by the time they arrived to fit the French ones. The end result has been a cheap quote for my flooring too. :D

I have embarked upon another 6 wheeled van again from the Slaters stable. This one one of the LMS slatted Fish or Milk trucks something I have long liked the look of but couln't really justify the £60+ for the kit when other things beckoned however this one was a nice ebay bargain.

It is a really nice kit that I nearly made a right botch of through not reading the instructions properly (or not taking in what I was seeing). In that I had assembled the sides and floor not realising that I had the two halves of the floor the wrong way round. I also had to replace the two outer most door stops with some made from brass as I broke one of them of while cutting the side from the sprue. They also seemed to fit on the wrong end, they are shaped and I had added them according to the shape and it wasn't until viewing a photo in the Midland coaches book by Jenkinson and Essery that I realised that they were at the wrong end so I had to cut them off and refit them at the other end.

It wasn't until I came to add the cleminson unit and the V hangers/vacuum cylinder with its cut out around the screws holding the cleminson unit in place that I had my Oops moment. It was too late to take it all apart, so I ground off the raised collars around the holes in the floor fitted the W irons and then measured and re-drilled the floor for the mounting screws for the cleminson unit.

I then added all the other detail. And you can see clearly where I removed the door stop to move it to the other end

I have since primed and sprayed the van in LMS crimson (Halfords Rover Damask Red) and I now need to fasten the wheels on and add the brakes before going on and finishing of the painting.

This is a very nice model, well done.

Now, that steam heat bag...  what about a dummy on which to place the free end?

Thanks Graham, by coincidence you my have noticed a part built one in the background on the recent West Mersea photo's.
With regard to the dummy I believe I may have a spare casting so I shall consult the photos and see what I can do.

a very good recovery from a 'sticky' situation there Rob. One of the reasons that soldering appeals to me as it can be de-bonded, correctly re-assembled and nobody being any the wiser. Having said that, I have three Slaters vans to build for the new layout, so I must make sure that I clean my glasses before starting!

Hi Mike, I mustn't have been very receptive at that point, either that or I have built too many coaches and had in my mind the pivot points for the bogies - which is what they looked like when I had them the wrong way around. :'( :shit:
All that said it is a nice kit and I wouldn't mind a couple more with a view to making a fish train of some sort depending what other fish wagon kit's are available from the various sources. I read somewhere that they are the least popular of Slaters kits, so the appeal must be limited to an 'odd' few like me ;D

Despite my battle with the press fix transfers, the fruit van doesn't look half bad.

Hi Robin,

A very nice finish, very nice.  What use was the info from the Midland Wagons by WSP?

If all of your 7mm stock is going to be as good as this then maybe the West Mersea gang ought to send along their local representative to offer you the chance to be "pressed".

Hi Graham, thanks for the kind words - if you had seen me messing about with the transfers last night you wouldn't have expected such a nice finish.
The midland wagon information was excellent thanks it stopped me from going to great lengths to make the guard irons for the brakes

Having seen all the unfinished stock in the West Mersea photos I had best keep my head down. ;D

We've only got 1500 wagons to go... All with working brake gear of course!
