I have been fascinated with the small in works locomotives of Crewe and Horwich ever since coming across the article on the restoration of Dot in Railway Bylines particular issue is out in the shop at the moment I cannot remember the issue but will add it later. (9:6 ) All this began really with my engagement with the Gn15 forum quite a few years ago now. I made a model of one of the Horwich locos on a Bachmann Percy chassis and called it Mercury. this loco was for the fictitious locomotive works that I called Macton Locomotive Works which was built tp a scale of 1/24th inch to the foot
this micro layout evolved over a number of years and included some track scaled to the full size of 4 foot 8 and half, next to the works and terminated in a loading area. the layout was seriously damaged by moisture while in storage during a move to the country in 2008 It languished in boxes in a new shop until I was inspired to try and rebuild it.
I made a new baseboard and played with the various bits that could be re worked. Here is a shot of the Beyer Peacock loco type I called Mercury. on the board with one of the arrangements.
I played will quite a few arrangements for a few days and had to put it away to deal with some commission work. Somewhere along the way I heard about the Crewe Works Tramway book by Taylor and Talbot and procured a copy. I was hooked and began a small brass model of Pet on another Bachmann Percy Chassis
This picture shows the peco 00 guage (representing 18inch gauge) and the hand laid code 225 nickle silver rail stripped out of some American O gauge set track.
Breakfast calls!... will continue after.
