FWIW I think less is more when it comes to weathering and its better to be restrained than OTT
"Less" is often harder to do than "More", too, in my opinion...

I love the "barely visible lettering" look on this loco, though.

I like first one it works really well, probably because the Background is less noticable. I take it you have been enjoying the airbrush?

Scale7JB

Western Thunderer
Right, I 'think' I'm done with the airbrush on the K2. I replaced all the previous weathering, as it was a bit too much, and not quite believable enough...

Still got some drybrushing to do. Need to get myself some decent brushes though first..

Oh and reattach the westo pump exhaust pipe overflow just above the right hand cylinder... a minor casualty..  :headbang:

Just a quick one really...

Two Big Jim GW well wagons.. one converted from 32mm that I built a few years back, and one from new for West Mersea..

Usual thing... took ages to work out how I was going to spring the first one.. and the second one took no time at all  :headbang:

Nice JB, I quite fancy one of Jim's Birdcage brakes - I have a couple of Slaters 4mm ones lying around un-built somewhere. I take it that aside from the springing everything else went together with ease? - the very first brass kit I built was one of the last 4mm kits Jim had left, a GW Toad brake van and it went together very well considering it was my first foray into the black art of soldering.

Hi Rob, yes, this went together very easily indeed..

I reckon, I could build one from fresh with springing and a spray of primer easily in a day now.. so long as I had all the extra bits needed for springing of course!

Cant recommend Jim's kits highly enough.. not amazing detail, but the kits allow extra detail if it's needed.. I've built 6 of his kits now, and they pretty much fall together with lovely sharp castings too

JB.

Springing one of those wagons is a challenge which I have yet to sort out... so to prevent much more :headbang:, please post a photo to show how you have done the job.

thank you, Graham

JB,
The two well wagons look good together, another chance to put the air brush to good use
I'll second Graham request as I have one of these and a tube wagon from Jim waiting to be built,

thanks Mick

On another subject the West Mersea extension really is coming on a treat now !!

Phase 2 is pretty much complete now with the curved outside section then entering into Peters workshop for the straight leading onto the traverser, and then the turntable at the end to turn engines for the return journey..

That looks absolutely fabulous!!

Would I be right in thinking that Peter was responsible for all those absolutely priceless "Chuffs" adverts that used to amuse me so much?

I love the way the track goes through the window, it reminds me of a favourite Saul Steinberg cartoon from one of the books my mum had when I was young - does anyone know the one I mean?

Clue, think windows in skyscrapers and one way journeys in miniature

Scale7JB

Western Thunderer
Hi Simon,

Yes that's Peter of Chuffs infamy..!

I must try and find some of the Chuffs adverts some time, to see what it was all about.

Peter mentioned that someone had got rather disgruntled about Peters current adverts for Perfect Miniatures, and gladly took his fury out on Peter.. Some people just don't have a sense of humour :|

Hmmm, I'll have to try something trickier next time..

On a different note... To see what I do in real life, check out a copy of the Sunday Times
motoring section today...
