I think you would struggle to get one out, I think the guy said a metre of wall is a tonne of stone, so a fair weight sitting on top!

I did try to move one about half way down to see if it moved at all and there was no chance it was moving.

The skill is selecting the stone and using it in the wall in one shot.

I've carried out repairs to the dry stone wall which separates my property from the snicket and castigated by my Yorkshire neighbour for picking up a stone, throwing it down as it did not seat right and using another one.

Peter, we were on Duchy land about a mile north of Tetbury, rebuilding an ancient wall.

Dave, I did ask if in picking up a stone it had to be put somewhere on the wall, but it's more a case of if you are a tradesman, and spent all day choosing stones, you'd never make any money!

Looking forward to progress then mate. I always use your bench thread as a bit of a shopping list. Ooo yeah I’ll have to get one of those....... and one of those. I could do to have a good shopping day at D&S by the looks of it !

Thanks, will get there in the end.. It's getting a lot better with a little fettling over the weekend.

Quite keen now to get this wagon finished before back on the F5 running. Couple of evenings should see it done and dusted. Currently ready for testing on Crosscombe tomorrow night.

I note that you haven’t fitted the “triangular reinforcing plates”, part 5, to the machinery wagon. If you check the photos in LNER Wagons Volume 2, pages 118 & 119, you can see that these should be struts rather than plates. You may already know this but ....

Happy with the results though..
It looks good but it's very RED. I'm rather intrigued by the long bent handrails and the long locking bar on the righthand doors, it makes it something slightly different from the norm. Do you know what the reasoning behind these long door handles were?

Adrian,

Yes it is a touch red isn't it.. It'll tone down with a good dose of heavy weathering I'm sure. I'm desperately looking forward to getting all the stock finished and painted, and then having a weathering session and bringing everything to life!

Looking at the long handles now, I may well have made them a tiny bit too long as I made them from a bit of copper wire, but they look presentable, and this close to a major exhibition that'll do for me. ;)
