see in front of the lead drivers and above the trailing bogie wheel, look at the depth of the frames. Then divide that by two for above and below the footplate, and that makes the material minimal, if going down the current method of splitting the frames at the point that the footplate meets them.
I looked and I saw... therein lies the consequence of compromise.

What stopped you from designing the kit so that the footplating is attached to (full depth) frame plates as per the prototype?

You would struggle to get the frames through the footplate around the smokebox area without taking the paint off of the frames each time you took the chassis off.

Having looked at prototype images, I think I'll go for the full fat cutout for the bogie wheels.

The valance on these is so deep, that you can't see the top of the arch anyway. Sorted.

Thinking about it now, you couldn't do that with the half etch overlay... Nice idea though..

Could you half etch the inner frame instead or is this a half etch as well?

The builder can cut/file the inner frame first, apply the overlay then cut/file that back to match. The only downside is it makes it a two stage process but worth it for the finesse.

Hi JB

When you built your Sidelines Thompson coaches, did you use Bushell's bogies with the sidelines frame over the top, it looks like you did from your pictures? Was it fairly easy to do?

I've just dropped my Sidelines bogie whilest aralditing the whitemetal sides on and it's now shaped like a banana, even straightened out it will pobably never run true. :'(

Cheers

Hi JP, I thought it would be an awful waste of etch to not use what was in the kit.

Here are some pics from my unfinished D328.

I did need to attach some scrap etch along the tops of the etched bogie frames to give me a shelf for the springs to rest against, if you are springing these of course.

Hope these help.

Bu**er, looks like I will have to make an emabassing phone call to Malcolm Binns.

Or maybe I could try and straighten my bogie out tomorrow once I've calmed down.

Thanks
