Springs

Does anyone have a source of springs for locomotive hornguides/axleboxes ? I don't really want to go down the set screw route for springing and would like to have fully sprung frames set up.

I was looking at something like these.... Compression Springs

I have bought from Entex. Much cheaper than the usual suspects though you need to be precise in your specification in the order.

Ian,
I suggest buying on size, with a few of different rating; you can then mix and match to suit. Also consider that if you're suitably cunning you can get more than one spring in a hornguide (I've managed up to four as an experiment!), which means you may be able to use model railway suppliers. Hobby Holidays do a spring which is much stronger than those supplied by Slaters.

Trying with multiple numbers of the springs you're likely to have in stock might give you a good idea of how well the approach will work for you.

Hi Ian
I have a range of springs in my stock drawers - varied ratings.
Ask next time you come over and I’ll get some out for you to try.

Oz7mm... Thanks, I'll give them a try when I get round to deciding which ones to buy.

Steph.... Seems Hobby Holidays are out of stock of all springs ! Good shout though.

John.... Thanks, I'll make sure I give you enough advance warning :)
