I don't mind a bit of Urban Grot/Grit, it makes a change from my bucolic Blakeney. I think I've often said that I do like a good urban layout.

‘Urban’ it will be, Alan, can’t guarantee the ‘good’.

Many thanks.

Well today, fellow Westerners, I am officially another year older and the Birthday Fairies, courtesy of my son and daughter, amongst other treasured gifts, have bestowed upon me the following via Royal Mail:

DD437C1A-421D-4BAE-A447-3196B7442A0A.jpeg

Now, despite being as happy as a pig in Space(?), I have to admit that I feel as confident about starting this as when I prepared to swim my first length.

So, if anyone’s up for a laugh, tune into my pending Workbench thread to follow this calamitous venture.

I’m sure when things go regularly awry, I can count on one or two old hands here to help bail me out:(

In fact, I’m off to a good start as @Heather has loaned me her best set of Fiskars, to do something or other with. I must get back to her to find out what.

PS: the wheels are on order :)

Following on from an Internet sourced image recently posted entitled ‘Shed Puddle’, and which seemed well received, I thought I’d post my own bargain-basement version as a nod to same entitled ‘Shed Flood’:

Time to leave the edit buttons alone methinks, and present some modelling.

To that end, and with Moderator permission fellow Westerners, I intend to start a work bench thread in the next few days to chronicle the build of my new tender kit which I hope some of you will follow, if not least to provide a guiding hand to this novice sailor setting out into unchartered waters.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

What's the prototype, Jonte? Just thinking that there may be some prototype photos out there which will help you on your way.

Good morning, Brian, and I hope and trust I find you well.

The kit is of a 3500 Gallon Churchward tender (in 4mm scale) and is formerly a Martin Finney model, now part of the Brassmaster range.

Prior to ordering, I downloaded the instructions written by Martin, who recommended the following volume to assist the builder and which I subsequently ordered as a step in the right direction:

8B8FDED3-6B24-402F-A356-4FC12FF1F42C.jpeg

As you can see, it is indeed a valuable source with its litany of annotated photos and drawings, which has already taken up an enjoyable hour or two of my un-constructive time and will no doubt help in eventually identifying the ‘pile’ of bits-n-bobs with which it comes, of which I have absolutely no idea what they’re called or even what they were used for on the real thing. Forgive my heresy, I implore! Not a great start, hey?

In a more serious vein, I’ve decided that it’s the elder version I’ll be attempting to construct, a vehicle more fitting for the late ‘20s period in which my scene will be set, which means the ‘lashed’ riveted version will serve as an ideal victim upon which to wield my fisted-ham, and with which I shall no doubt require a guiding hand or two ;)

Many thanks for your interest, Brian, and I hope I don’t disappoint.

I'm glad you've already had a helpful response. Simon's yer man for things GWR.

I was hopeful that I'd have something in my collection which would be helpful but that date is a bit early for me. An ex Finney kit is a good place to start, but then I would say that, wouldn't I?

Enjoy!

Many thanks, Tim

I’ll have a butcher’s a little later once I’ve boxed off all the little jobs typical of a Bank Holiday Monday :(

Thanks, Brian - but don’t wander too far in case it all gets a bit much :)
