Wencombe /Kingsbridge Regis/Louville Lane

Sadly the demise of Kingsbridge got a lot closer today with arrival of the new baseboards for the cameo layout, I went and got them from Tim Horn this morning, just fitted in the car. Brilliant work and excellent value.

The dismantling of Kingsbidge will probably start this weekend.

Sorry people, Kingsbridge/Wencombe is no more. 4 of the boards have been taken up, the stream, the harbour, the station throat and the fiddle yard throat, only four more boards to go. The station itself and the fiddle yard wich wil be the last to go. It's taken a lot longer than I thought. Unfortunately with a layout that goes round a room and was initially built some 10 years plus ago, although only two coach bolts joining each board some minor screws etc have been covered in scenery and therefore taking them apart as well as glue having dribbled between the baseboard joints as well as how the back-scene was screwed to the baseboards it has taken almost three hours a board so far and the with intermittent cleaning and vacuuming it has taken 2 days to get this far. I'm hoping that the last 4 boards will be somewhat quicker as they are not "squashed" in and can be move laterally which may help with parting them.

I would like to thank all those followers and those who have looked in occasionally for all your support and encouragement over the past 10 years or so on both Wencombe and Kingsbridge Regis, I hope you will follow The build of Louville Lane in the Cameo layouts section. It may be a few weeks yet as the railway room needs a bit of titivation The building of Wen/ Kings was enjoyable but it is now time for a change . The new layout is being funded by the sale of now redundant stock and buildings.

Oddly I feel little regret as I destroy some 12 years (all told) work. At the moment the boards are being stored in the garage and sitting opposite them is the new board for Louville Lane.

However don't be surprised to see the odd appearance of the Kingsbridge thread from time to time, I gather a stash of photos has just been found and will of course be shown on here.

Again many thanks for all your support and kind comments.

A shame about the dismantling especially after all this time and work, but a fresh start will be good.

Just curious, how do you price the buildings that are for sale?

Pen y Bryn has been around for nearly thirty years, there's a few more things I can add like the Station, but the layout is limited for new pictures etc...the thought of a dismantle and a rebuild of something else is a bit daunting! Especially with all the work that went into the buildings and scenes!

I have finished taking down the scenic part of the layout this morning. The fiddleyard is still to do but at the moment it's acting as a large shelve for various bits and boxes.

The boards are now in the garage awaiting disposal.

It is a shame it had to go as I did enjoy the Harbour scenes and the layout development.

Having said that I had a 4m portable layout sitting around for a year and in the end it had land based Viking funeral i.e. I threw it on a bonfire (after recovering buildings, point motors, electrical hardware, case catches and the working switch stands). It went up a treat.

Now look forward to seeing Louville Lane develop.

Whilst diposing of all the trees of the old layout I realised that the cameo layout will have little or no greenery on it. A new challenge an urban grot type layout.

Most of the boards have gone to the recycle dump. Just two left which are being made ready to take, i.e. stripping scenery and track. I then have to decide what of the assorted hoarded bits and pieces in the model railway room can thrown out, removed to the garage/attic or kept in the room. When I've done that the new boards will be put in the room and the new layout (Louville Lane) can be started. Hopefully within the next fortnight. Well here's hoping anyway.

The final board went to the tip yesterday morning. I'm now sorting out 12 years of assorted modelling bits and pieces, some of which I suspect I will not need again (but you never know), that's the problem. It seems the more I tidy up the more I find and the more I have to think "will I ever need this or use this again", and if I think I won't need it do I bin it, sell it or store it in the garage or attic, just in case. Oh the joys of railway modelling??!!??

Hi Alan,
I know your pain! Recently I helped a good friend demolish his layout (house move), the amount of stuff we disposed of was amazing and he's still got tons of stuff. We railway modellers sure do accumulate a lot of 'stuff'!
I dread my next move.
John.

As mentioned in an earlier post that when demolitioning the goods shed office at Kingsbridge Regis a stack of B&W photos were found both of Wencombe and Kingsbridge Regis. I believe they were taken by Frank Drake the local haulier and obviously avid train spotter. As I sort through them and try and tidy them up on the computer I will post them on here.

the first two that I've worked on 38xx leaving Wencombe with a mineral train.

and the Collett goods on a spent ballast train.
