That's all the family matters now out of the way so I carried on a bit this afternoon. I have soldered in the droplights and door hinges,

something of a cruel enlargement, which rather horribly demonstrates the droplight isn't centred. It looks ok from some distance away.

That's one side done, the instructions suggest adding the door bonnets and guards duckets at this stage however I'm going to do them after the bodyshell is assembled, with the RSU. I'm not entirely happy with the tumblehome, definitely should have annealed the etch first, but it's difficult to adjust now, half closed eyes will cover for it.

As a complete aside, on the way home yesterday we stopped at Duxford, which is very impressive museum, and saw the post war Spanish built ME109 being tested, most enjoyable but not a patch on a Spitfire.

Martin

OK Martin what strings did you pull to get them to sell you 500ml of Phosphoric acid?
I just phoned and they are telling me the minimum size they sell it in is one litre.
Looks like I'm going to have enough flux for a few lifetimes!

Hi auld boot
That really isn't a flattering pseudonym. I presume your referring to Bonnymans in Beith. The website suggests a minimum quantity of 1l, however when I rang them a 500ml quantity seemed no problem, and when I went there and asked for it, their immediate suggestion was a 1/2 litre so I don't believe there should be an issue. I might have thought twice if I had to buy more than that, as it is I've more than enough to see my modelling out.

Martin, we must have spoken to different people at Bonnymans. Hopefully it was sales talk but the woman I spoke to was adamant that any bottle they had in stock less than 1l should not contain phosphoric acid due to the type of plastic, all seemed very odd and amusing to me as I could see your 500ml bottle with their label on it on my screen as I spoke to her!
I'll ask again about 500ml bottles when I visit later today to collect.

What a strange world we live in, I had to hold back the laughter as they happily told me they had never sold phosphoric acid in anything less than one litre bottles. I didn't push the issue as I really do need some flux.
And you don't need a map or sat-nav to find the place, just drive to Beith and follow your nose to the source of the school chemistry lab smell.
Sorry for the hi-jack I'll return your thread to the Wolverton workhorse.
