We were getting a bit worried last weekend when the possibility of snow was being forecast for this coming weekend. But fortunately that forecast seems to be changing and a check on the forecast this morning shows no likelihood of snow, but the possibility of sun. So we might get a repeat of the good weather we have had for the past two years, and we hope to see many of you at the exhibition.

Just a note about car parking if you are not using public transport. There are no car parking spaces for visitors next to the exhibition location. The few parking spaces there are reserved for disabled drivers and for church members working in the church grounds. There are large, free car parks a few hundred yards away in Yate town centre and we recommend that drivers go there to park. Please note that there is a four hour maximum stay time in these car parks which they do enforce using number plate recognition cameras.

For those using public transport, buses might be a better bet since the bus terminus is a short distance away from St.Mary's church in the town centre. The railway station is a fair walk away down Station Road.

And we had a very successful day. The weather - a January exhibition organiser's major concern - worked in our favour. It was a cold, cloudy day with some rain very early on, so not very good by most people's standards, but the wind was from the north which suits us very well since the doors to the church and the hall are very well sheltered from winds in this direction, so the exhibition areas were comfortable.

WT was well represented, with Simon Castens looking quite happy with the world behind his Titfield Thunderbolt stand and SimonT seemed reasonably happy behind his Acme Street Refining Establishment (alternative title - "Aberwee" :) ) although there was a bit of muttering about a forgotten point motor supply. :) TimC's "End of the Line was running well all the day while running PSV driving tests for lorry drivers from the public - which was some relief to club members who had been press-ganged into the task. :) And Jerry Clifford - Queensquare - was demonstrating his 2mmFS modelling techniques - arguably a stand where Optivisors are a requirement. :)

Our Treasurer's face almost cracked into a smile by lunchtime which is usually taken as a sign that we have broken even by that point, so we had a successful day from all points of view. My apologies for the lack of pictures. I was doubling up as S Scale Society parts officer on the day as several SSMRS members were visiting the exhibition, and also looking for parts, so I was most exercised on the morning to make sure I hadn't forgotten their parts, and forgot my camera. :) I think TimC took some pictures, so he might post some.

We've started planning next year's show already. :)

Now back to modelling again - a boat hull calls for my attention. :)

Jim.

Thoroughly enjoyable as ever, thank you to Jim, Tim and all the other organisers and helpers. I'm just off to the shop to unload stock - happily quite a lot less than I packed upon Friday:)

Simon

PS A full set of Mark Wood fully machined 1/32 scale wheels were handed over to an impatient sub-contractor at the show - let's call him "Dubs" with an umlaut:p

Here are a few piccies from yesterday's show. I think Jim has covered all the necessaries so I'll only add my thanks to all those that came both as exhibitors and visitors.

What the others have said. A thoroughly enjoyable day, great lunch, an enormous piece of cake followed by a pint and curry with chums in the evening - marvellous!
Many thanks to all involved in organising the day.

An excellent show as always and Jerry's micro layout (micro in more ways than one....it never ceases to amaze me how these 2mm chaps get such beautiful running:)
I'm seriously thinking of doing a 3mm variation of the "Inglenook" theme. It'll get something running whilst slow progress is made on Chipping Compton.

From another Thunderer - adding to the WT list of attendees at the show - it was a very good day for the Lea Bailey Light Railway Society.
Thanks to Tim & co for allowing us to attend with info, sales etc etc. We took nearly £50 for the Society. There was a good deal of interest in what we are doing in the Forest of Dean at both the Lea Bailey gold mine site and in Hawthorns tunnel nearby and trying to raise interest and cash is vital to our continuation.

We have the Narrow Gauge Railway Society visiting in May so lots to do - track laying in the tunnel being just one priority..
Please check our website www.leabaileylightrailway.co.uk and/or follow us on the Facebook page that I run too for full details.

I was pleased that my micro Gn15 "Paradise Bottom" attracted a great deal of interest too and throughout the day, at least 6 people said to me they were off to purchase some track to have a go themselves at something equally as simple, daft and entertaining !

It was a great show and long may it continue to be so friendly, with great train sets on view and jolly nice people attending.

Roger
