G3 Show and AGM 25th February Biggleswade - CANCELLED.

We found out today that the Weatherley Centre in Biggleswade (that was due to be the location for the annual G3 Show and AGM on the 25th of February) have 'made a mistake' and as such, the hall is not available to us.

To that end, the G3 Show and AGM are postponed indefinitely whilst we try and arrange an alternative location and date.

Members of the G3 Society should receive a letter shortly informing them of this turn of events. I can't apologise enough, I actually paid the deposit and watched them write the date in their booking diary so I have no idea how they managed to make the mistake.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
All the best
Steve

Hi Baz
At first, it will be the G3 Society - we are trying to contact as many people as possible via email to reduce the cost of that posting.
I know the chairman is in contact with the Weatherley Centre and its trustees - I suspect this issue will be one of the points under discussion!

OK Steve,

Don't send me a letter....! Oh, & I've passed it on to John Taylor.... So he knows. There you go, two stamps saved......

One would hope that the chairman is wearing his 'shinning boots' whilst he is 'talking' to the Weatherley Centre....!?!

Hmmm, did wonder about that Col - felt this wave of deja vu sweep over me.....

Never ceases to amaze me how some organisations are so flippant about breach of contract. How difficult would it have been for someone to pick up a telephone & make a phone call during the planning stage for these works (apparently, there's building works going on).

The situation is just infuriating  The role is busy enough as it is given its 'voluntary' - this just adds a whole layer of :shit: which is unnecessary and messes about traders, caterers, members and committee members. Even when everybody knows, there'll be a fall out that will need dealing with, going to be great for a bit isn't it :(

Noted from me too.
Have sent a note to Steve and Chairman Horrocks to suggest the school next door, which has been / is used by a local model railway club for their ?annual? exhibition. So surely good enough for us?

Yes Andy - I did the same thing!

It may be difficult to contact them during half term and after that will be too late.

I think the suggestion of building works is a red herring. There is an antiques fair due there the weekend before ('er indoors and I often attend) which is still listed. If building works is to take place they will have had good warning.

You have a contract. Make a claim for at least out of pocket expenses at a minimum and add at least double for loss of reputation within your specialist field. Contacts are THE WEATHERLEY CENTRE LIMITED - Officers (free information from Companies House) but note that a number of directors are shown as resigned. I'm sure you can't afford to get solicitors involved, and you probably should not do so anyway but it has to be worth you writing a letter.

Also, and very easy, make a claim through the Small Claims Court.

BTW, I'm not a barrack room lawyer, but was MD of a blue chip company until I retired.

(This sort of thing makes me very cross. Just because you are a small organisation without resources gives absolutely no excuse for cancelling with a contract in place and without sufficient notice. At the very least some mitigation should be offered, as, for example, them organising an alternative venue on your behalf).

The G3S website this morning states that the AGM will take place at Reading, during the ALSRM show.

I think that is a proposal, not a decision, but seemed a good idea to me though I notice some traders are at the alternative venue Peterborough. monkton Priors appears on the layout lists of both, but John Candy has cast doubt on it's presence at Reading.
I think we're probably at that "Don't Panic!" moment in Dad's Army, where everyone rushes about shouting at each other. It will be impossible to find a solution that suits everyone, but the committee are the people with all the facts to hand, I'm confident they'll find the best solution.
