Hairy Bikers and Other Petrol Heads

I've just bought a bike with a heated seat option - it feels really weird!
Hadn't thought they'd got that far with bikes, got 'em in the Jeep but motors have had them a while. I had heated handlebar grips on the BMW twins I owned, a god send when belting up the A1 on cold January nights as a courier !

I never had a heated seat but did have heated grips AND a heated jacket that plugged into the bikes (BMW R60 then R45) electrics and a switch on the bars. What I liked about the heated coat was that it was light weight so warm on bike but not roasting when walking, not like loads of jumpers, etc.

I like the heated seat in the car, warms up the back nicely.

I went to work on the bike today. Got quite damp on the way back for my troubles.

Heated grips are great, but not being wet is better.
In my full time biking days I used to wear Rukka water proof gear over the leathers, never got wet but a bit too warm in summer !

I’ve got a lovely BMW touring jacket, which I bought pretty much brand new at a club auction for 70 quid. I was quite delighted to see they were well north of £500 list…. The dampness was the jeans, it just wasn’t far enough, long enough or raining enough to put the over trousers on, but it was damp enough to notice…

I think I’m bored with winter!

Don't get a Dellow then! :)

Mind, it's mainly the right shoulder and elbow that gets wet in a Dellow....[for a passenger, it's the opposite].

Left leg below the knee gets boiling hot....slow moving traffic to be avoided, as rain water drips off the bottom of the steering wheel.....which is right above...you-know-where!

I tended to carry one of those big bright brollies for when coming across stationary traffic was likely....In rain, I could put it up whilst sat in the car, cooking my left leg...
For me, as a tall old fella with ver stiff leg joints....the Dellow actually provides shelter under the the scuttle for most of my lower body.

Aside from the drips from the various small holes scattered around, intended for stuff that no longer is present.
The main source of wetness, however, occurs when flying through puddles.....the floor is far from all encompassing..with many holes, slots etc!

Water shoots upwards from various corners of each floor half, at high speed..
Negotiating flood water of up to more than a couple of feet deep involves fairly slow driving, in order not to soak one's bum....[All the essential injin lektriks are high up..the benefit of a sidevalve engine...]

Can really only be driven wearing plimmies, however...

Alan Millyard was on the Motorbike show with a replica Honda 6 last week...

He'd built it himself "always wanted one, but they're something like a million quid and I can't ever afford that, so I built one"

Yes, I've seen that. Over the years I sometimes considered a Benelli engined race replica would be cheaper with the same sound effect . :D
