Things they are a-changin'

It seems our webmaster has been tweaking things behind the scenes.

Sadly, one change has caused me a little frustration, and that is the image upload system when composing a post. For a blow-by-blow thread of construction, one often posts several images in a post at a time. It had become my custom to select all the images for the post at once, let them upload while I began composing my text. By the time I'd finished my intro paragraph, the first images would be ready to insert and away I'd go.

Now, it seems, I have to upload one image at a time.

One.

Image.

At.

A.

Time.

My most recent post in my Collett construction thread has five images...

Can I just say I find this new upload scheme a retrograde step? I would appreciate The Powers That Be considering returning to the old method if it's possible.

Thanks. :)

What Heather means is the upload window has changed, before you could select several images to upload at one go, now you can only select 'one' image at a time to upload.

You can still add as many images to a post as you want, just that you now have to select them one at a time to upload. No idea when this change occured as last night I uploaded three images at once in my S7 thread fine.

Addendum, at work so just checked a couple of PCs, Win7 only allows one image at a time, WinXP allows multiple images to be selected, I use WinXP at home so it's probably not a WT web issue but an OS issue.

On the post just made, I uploaded four photos as usual, then inserted them one at a time into the post.

IMG_3996.JPG

IMG_3997.JPG

IMG_3998.JPG

these were added from the 'every image' option but you cannot then insert text between the photos, which I think is what Heather is trying to do - I think?

cheers

I uploaded all those five images at once by pressing 'Upload a File' then selecting 5 images & then clicking 'Open'.......Hopefully Adrian can be of further assistance if required?

Sorry if it's not much help.....I'm in the Flying Squad 'Kicks Ass' department........Adrian does the I.T. :D

Chance would be a fine thing if I actually had the time to do anything at the moment.:( I'm totally maxed out with other things for this weekend so I haven't tweaked a single thing.

Did you say on your workbench you had a new computer? So are you using a different internet browser or a newer version of a browser? I'll have to check the code being used for the upload, I've never really looked into it before but if it's using javascript then maybe the version used is causing the problem.

Can I just say I find this new upload scheme a retrograde step? I would appreciate The Powers That Be considering returning to the old method if it's possible.
It sounds like a retrograde step, unfortunately as mentioned the "old method" hasn't changed so I can't see how I can go back. It'll be a case of trying to track down the bug. For example what browser are you using and does it occur with alternative browsers? Chrome/Opera/IE/Safari/Firefox w.h.y. If there is a common source to the problem them I might be able to replicate it.

Ah, now, yes, a new pooter. It is an updated browser, but I saw a different upload method to what happened before.

Clicking the Choose File button gives me a dialog box, but I can only select one item in the list of images I perhaps want to upload. This is a change - potentially down to an updated browser, I admit. Previously, I could select a whole range of images, which would proceed to upload to the server while I got on with composing my post.

Once I have the uploaded images in the list, I can insert as normal. It's the upload bit that's changed for me. I'll just test in a different browser...

I just tried in Google Chrome, and it's the same. I can't select more than one image to upload in the selection dialog. :(

Hi,

Can't do much digging at the moment as I'm supposed to be working! However from the admin area on attachments it has this comment

Using the Flash uploader allows those visitors with Adobe Flash installed to select multiple files to upload once, and to see a progress meter during the upload.

So I suspect it's either you don't have adobe flash plugin installed or you have the very latest version which is somehow incompatible with this flash uploader.

This link should show what version of flash if any is installed.

http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html

It is installed on my WinXP box at work and the multiple image selection works for me. I'd be interested to see what you have setup.

Regards

Adrian

Flash?! [swear, rant, spit, hate]:headbang::rant:

That would explain a lot. I do run a Flash blocker. As this is a new system, I am rediscovering which sites I allowed that nasty spying piece of work to run on in the past.

Thanks Adrian. I'll allow the Adobe snitch to run on this domain and gain my multi-upload capability again.

I cannot upload pictures at all using Firefox. I discussed this with Adrian a week or two ago and investigated the Flash situation at his suggestion, but to no avail. I've just re-checked using the Flash checker URL above and according to it, I'm running the latest version for Win7. However, everything is working in IE and Chrome, so I use Chrome if I have to upload pictures.

Superb photos of 6 wheel milk tanker posted above. The unweathered on appears a different variant to the weathered one - tank strapping on the latter. I am in the throws of making the LMS Slate'rs 6 wheeler (presuming your picture is the same kit) and would be grateful for any other photos you may have showing the underside detail and also side view to show the strapping / sole bar detail.

Kind regards

Superb photos of the Diesel railcar. Do you mind me asking is this scratch built or a kit. It is very impressive indeed!

Hi Bryan,

it's a Bachmann RTR with a lot of detailing and extras to suit the particular unit - for the 'fuller' story, have a look on my thread in Area 51 - 'Ressaldar's workbench' by the way, glad you like it.

cheers

That explains why I can't upload images from my old, venerable but otherwise completely serviceable iPad 1.
Not just on this forum, either.
