Good evening Mr G, from Pen Llyn, hope life is treating you well ? I really do like the curving flow of the layout as depicted in your image below.

What is the full length of the Shed section ?

Are you tottering along to Carrog next week ? I heard a rumour there will be warm Welsh Cakes, pies and much tosh chatted, over numerous Paned's.

Hope you can bob along.

Best regards
Craig.

Rugby? Wot's that?

I can imagine you snaffling all the welsh cakes and then going home ha ha. The November meet has come around so quickly. Are we all O gauge now?

Are we all O gauge ? I think so, but .......................

Forgive me Father for what I am about to confess :( my resolve weakened sometime ago, and I bought a Dapol class 22 !!
only to see what it was like mind .., anyway I now have 6, and 5 x Heljan Hymeks in 4mm, and a bit of other stock ...
for this I am truly sorry ... I have said 10 x Hail Mary's, but I still lust over the 4mm stock .. ;)

I really wish I had started a wagon thread now, because it might be more useful if everything on rolling stock were kept in one place rather than having to scroll through a layout thread.

I'm sure if you started a wagon/rolling stock thread now the forum administrators will be able assist by moving the relevant posts to it for you.
I'll see what I can do - and hope it doesn't all go pear shaped!
[post edit] - I got terribly confused as the posts I was looking for kept disappearing until I realised that Dikitriki had got in there just before me.:))

So a link to the wagon thread for those wondering where they have all disappeared to.Corwen 7mm Wagon w.b.

There were a lot of pages weren't there, so thanks Adrian and Richard (Dikitriki) for moving the ones directly concerning wagon weathering and kit construction across to a new thread and leaving the images of trains of wagons on the layout thread.

I could go either way Larry, shame we missed you, and I didn't eat all the cakes, haha, well not quite.
I still have Seven Mills in Blue Diesels and Argyle Street in 4mm and will be doing a large 4mm once down Souf.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks. When you say you will be building a large 4mm layout once down Souf, do you mean a Southern layout or are you going to live down souf?

BOTH, haha, We are moving back down to Hampshire where we have all 4 of Dee's Children, (2 x sets of Twins 15 Months apart, now 54 and 55), plus husbands / wives, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
I hope to have a large Garage, and will be building a large Roundy Steam / 60's era Layout in either S & D or Southern. Seven Mills will probably have to go, as it's to long for most Garages that we have seen in properties so far.

BTW, I don't know if you have seen it on RMW of anywhere, but sadly Jim / Aberdare on RMW has passed away, he was a great modeller with his Hemyock project and lost his wife about a year ago.

All the best and keep well.

Andy, I am guessing you will be building a 4mm/00 layout in your garage down sarf. If your garage is a part of your house then it will be snug in winter. A garage in isolation (like mine) is the last place anyone would want to spend time in even in summer.

Keep well and good luck,
Larry

Hi Larry,
That's why my work bench is at my brother's in his railway room. I've got too much kit now for working on the kitchen table and although my garage has power and more lights than you can shake a stick at (the previous owner used it a lot as awork room for DIY), plus a covered pit for working under the car (no chance), it's too cold and damp for model railway work.

Lovely weathering on the vans and wagons by the way.

Cheers,
Peter

Andy, making a move back to Hampshire is a brave one and I wish you well. Mary and I moved early enough (1965) to start a new dynasty in North Wales and so this is where our main 'family' is.

Whatever I end up with will be fully insulated like a proper room Larry, including the floor. 2 inches of Polystyrene sheeting with a 12mm Chipwood or Ply sheet on top, then the Halfords interlocking rubber mats in the walk area. Plus of course the walls and roof lined as well. Snug as a Bug in a Rug, haha.

Just for your comfort, Andy, I had a "Workshop" built within a double garage. The garage is separate from the house and is decidedly damp and cold. I insisted on a suspended floor with insulation and a damp protective barrier between the exterior brick and outside walls and floor, together with insulation panels. Insulation was then fitted inside the roof as I use the "loft" for storage of my unmade kits. In the summer it's cool. In the winter it warms up quickly. If there's a down side it's that I've lost a good six inches all round due to the insulation, and probably at least 18 inches under the floor.

It's now very snug, keeps warm, heats up quickly using an oil filled convector heater and is a most comfortable space into which I can retreat. The insulation allows me to play my heavy rock at full blast as well.

What more could a (retired) man want?:))

Garage with a pit for car fettling, and space for half a dozen motorbikes...

And a short walk to the quayside

Where there’s a decent pub with decent beer and decent folks, and the boat’s tied up a few yards further along.

And it’s never cold, wet, grey and Novemberish.

:)

Well, as most of you know, my railway room was once a home cinema with an air-con unit. The latter is still there and it can pump out warm air when needed. I do have a portable work bench but it is, to be honest, quite useless. I never have all the tools I need and at the moment I have only my Metalsmiths riveter and a couple of other tools to hand.

Simon, where is your boat tied up? We need the coordinates! (a PM will do!)
