That's all looking very nice Geoff.

Offering much in the way of inspiration !

Rob.

Thank you Rob, I'm pleased that you have found some inspiration here on my thread. Roughly twelve months ago I was in the same situation as yourself, and about to embark on a 7mm scale modelling journey, one that I am sure you will enjoy as much as myself:)

That is stunning.
Lovely details.

Thanks Ade, I have always tried to make up for my layouts lack of size and track by adding as much detail as possible. Something that is even more rewarding, and satisfying in the larger scale.

I can only echo what the others have said superb work and really like the ground frame in its setting.

Michael

Thank you Michael, I'm rather pleased with how the ground frame worked out myself, it was part of my original plan and then I started thinking about a small signal box instead.

Before and after, looking back I think the box would have been a huge mistake as the ground frame looks more at home, and helps create a more open look to the scene.

So that's two of you ganging up on me is it? :p

Make that 3 !;)

Makes you wonder how long the list will be, I mean there must be more than three of us who have been influenced and inspired by your modelling:)

Meanwhile I have been adding a little more greenery to the area beyond the crossing, after which I took a couple of photos. That is something that I always do when developing a scene, as I find it helps me to decide how far to take things. Anyway this photo started me thinking about developing the cassette deck scenically, much as I did with Llangunllo's. Whilst far from perfect the idea worked well on the old layout, suited my style of operation and made good use of what would have been a dead space.

There are some instances on the Southern where they removed signal boxes on lightly used lines a replacement ground frame was sited on the station platform under the canopy surrounded by a iron fence.

I also take many photos as I go along as the camera is far less accomodating than the eye and therefore easier to see areas of concern.

Good stuff though Geoff, as always.

Hello Geof, ok great to see an update .............. yep getting more and more atmospheric each time.

I would like to book a day of social distancing at Bleddfa Rd, happily sitting on the gate, with my butties & a flask, just watching the slow pace of life go by please

Best regards, from a still inspired
Craig.

Thanks Craig, best regards to you as well, glad you are still being inspired:) We are staying well away from Bleddfa at the moment, and hiding away in another area of Wales, which is providing plenty of inspiration for a backscene.

Here's a couple of early ideas, which have been put through the photo editor to remove the crisp detail. The big question is, can I capture the scenes with paint and brush?

Oh YES you will Geoff and they will be as good as the rest of your modelling, ie excellent.

You are too kind Alan, thank you, though I doubt my old art master would agree with you.

Since my last update I have been working on a scenic fiddleyard and have finally made a start on the backscene.

P1170986.JPG
I decided to use hardboard for the backscene, and here it is after three coats of brilliant white matt emulsion. Next job was to paint the sky using a small sponge roller.

P1180016.JPG

I decided to go with the scenic fiddleyard, which is now fully operational, the track comprises ply sleepers, C&L two bolt chairs and Slater's rail. The siding now serves a small limekiln, what you see here is only a rough card mock up, inspiration came from Gordon Gravetts plan in his second book on 7mm scale modelling. The track in the siding is being infilled with DAS modelling clay, and there will be a heavily modified Peco buffer stop at the end of it. I'm using acrylics for the backscene, though the sky also has the same white emulsion mixed in with them.

Those distant hills have now reached the halfway point on the layout, and will hopefully capture the feel of a cold damp day.

P1170984.JPG

The lane will disappear into the backscene behind a hedgerow, which has been mocked up using my photo editor in this view.

P1170993.JPG

I expect the scene to look something like this when complete, though the lane will be on the level rather than climbing. This is only a painted test panel for trying out various colour mixes, techniques and ideas, but will hopefully give you an idea of what I am hoping to achieve. More painting tomorrow and with luck the whole scene will be finished by this time next week.

There are some instances on the Southern where they removed signal boxes on lightly used lines a replacement ground frame was sited on the station platform under the canopy surrounded by a iron fence.

The Southern were adept at this - Corfe Castle had its ‘box replaced with a ground frame in the porter’s office - while others ended up outdoors. I can’t think of a be-railing-ed example away from the Central Section (Sheffield Park is the well known one).

Morning Geoff.

I must say its all looking nice indeed. Very Llangunllo in terms of appearance which had a lovely tone to it all.

I think that perhaps it's taken for granted that a modeller will produce a layout with a look and feel consistent with the last. It's harder than it looks!

Rest assured, for me at least, there's much in the way of inspiration being provided.

Thanks.

Rob.
