The thread has moved onto wagons but I think Murray wants the truncheon type handles for luggage doors on carriages?

John,

Lovely models. I'm in the process of building a Special Tank, and I'm having some issues. May I pick your brain assuming you remember the build?

Hi Kevin,
Sorry to hijack your thread John.
I have just completed a 'Special Tank'. A few photos attached. Can I help with anything?
Apart from the resin castings being a distorted, due to the length of time it has been in storage, I found it went together quite well.
Sandy
Nice. I'll pm you so we don't mess up John's thread.

Oh dear......there was a thread on rmweb showing the same mistake on another Special Tank......the footpath valence is on the wrong way. They are nowhere near this wide on the real thing they were made of 2 1/2 inch steel angle. On the model the wide side is attached to the underside of the footplate, the thickness of the brass strip giving the 2 1/2 inches. It pays to have a good photo handy when building.....

I always try to work from photos - but then again even with photos I always seem to get something wrong!

In this case to illustrate your point from wikipedia and by coincidence the same number although slightly later in period I think. Fortunately "easy" to correct by filing down the valance a bit - i.e. certainly easier than adding material.

Not an easy filing job that's for sure......great photo , even shows the correct orientation of the smokebox lubricator with its tap on the bottom.
Getting coat ........

And the spillage cup under the tap and the kink in the sandbox lever to clear the cup . Very early units didn't have the cup so the lever was straight .

Sweet. photos for evidence please.:D Just check the position of the handrails on the tank as that seems to be another variation that is not always set correctly.
