I never did receive a reply from Slaters. It was left up to me to ring them for some help, which there seemed to a reluctance in forthcoming.

Now, where is Northern Fine Scales' telephone number?

Anyway, I can now actually begin the assembly.

Please, please, please has any member actually assembled the Slaters Standard/Meat van, their ref G100/G101?

I just can't understand the drawings nor the instructions.

I really would appreciate any help with making up my van(s).

Thanks in anticipation.

Think I’ve got one in the back of a cupboard, somewhere. Can’t actually remember assembling it, suppose I must have. I’ll see if I can’t find it, maybe some photos of it might help? I recall I got it to the stage of fitting the roof and couldn’t work out how todo it without glueing it permanently.

I have actually assembled about 90% of the kit. Yesterday I managed to spray paint the underframe. Today I would like to raise the main van body slightly but the screws holding it to the axle-guards are very short. I expect I'll strip the thread in the floor. Why Slaters supply such tiny fixings I can't imagine. Surely not to cut cost and since they are not visible it wouldn't matter if they supplied them just a little longer.

What colour should the van body be, please? My other vans are bauxite coloured and I would like something different.

It has certainly been a challenge. I'm pleased I'm no older than I am!

Thank you for all your help and encouragement.

Good to hear that you are making progress. Bauxite is the colour of choice as far as I know. If you weather the wagon it will increase the variety of colours. The link gives you an idea of the colours found on the prototype. Grey was used for departmental use in later years.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Sorry. I missed your reply.

Thank you for your suggestion. I frequently view Paul Bartlett's photograph library for ideas.

I'm about to begin assembling the 2nd Slaters kit I purchased. At least now I have some idea of the frustration I'm going to face.

It has been a while since my last post on assembling my Slaters van kit.

After all my frustration that one is about 80% completed. I am now beginning to assemble a 2nd kit and the opportunities are beginning to arise again!

Firstly the instructions are still the same. I would like to obtain the instructions for the Slaters 10ton MR van as seen in the first post of this subject. Would a member help, please?

Drilling the coupling assembly (Fig 10) for the split-pin is also proving problematic. I have asked Slaters if they would supply the coupling assemblies with pre-drilled holes. I await a response.

Once again no reply from Slaters to my request for help so I got on with it and ruined several drills.

I am about 2/3rd through my second slaters kit and nothing has got any easier. On my first kit, there were gussets for the chassis. The gussets had bolt heads moulded but on this kit, the bolt heads are missing. Presumably, moulded for Slaters by another company?

I shall be pleased when I have finished and I can stop beating myself up. I managed to win a couple of NFS kits on ebay and am looking forward to assembling them.

Has a member a copy of the instructions for the Slaters 10ton MR van that they would copy for me, please?

Thank you.

PS I've never professed to be an engineer indeed nor a modeller. I just ask questions in the hope some kind person will help me.

I have instructions for the Slaters Gauge 3 version of the Midland 10ton van kit, but suspect that will be quite different. Is there nobody in the Gauge 1 community that can help Sarah?

It's very frustrating - I can't help as my interests are in 7mm locos, and I'm not so god at that!

However, some photos which show the problems being experienced may help. Were there no instructions in the kit, Sarah?

Hi Sarah,
I'm just about to order one from slaters, so I can workout what changes I need to make to my 7mm models when i up-scale them to 1/32, so i will scan them for you when they arrive. If you PM me with you email address I well send them to you.

Brian, thank you for your interest. The only instructions were an A3 sheet with isometric drawings which were not easy to read.

Marc, thank you also for your offer. If I can work out how to PM you, I'll certainly send my email address.

I have the instructions you are after but I'm unable to copy them. Message me your address and I can post them to you.

Keith
