Gladiator kits

Just a quick update: we completed the purchase of Gladiator from Geoff this week. Now for the long job of restocking and learning how to do the business!
Please bear with us while we get up and running again. Happy to hear suggestions of what kits need to be re-introduced first.

Dave and Trisha Hill.

A long time since any posts on this old thread.........

Just wanted to give notice that there will be a price increase on most of the range effective 1st July. We have decided to make all prices inclusive of post and packing charges so the headline price rise looks a bit frightening. After taking into account P&P the actual rise is much less. We have been able to hold prices since September 2018 and do regret that we need to do this.

Meanwhile kits are free of charges for post and packing at the current prices. A number of the more popular kits are now out of stock but subject to our suppliers delivering on time (and me being able to get a flight from Taiwan) we expect to have everything in stock at the end of July. If you want something that is currently out of stock then it can be secured at the old price for a deposit of £50 and delivery as soon as back in stock.

And there was me hoping for a WT discount on a LNER U1

Only pulling your leg, but hopefully grab one from you one day.

JB.

Just out of interest when are you likely to have the LNER U1 back in stock?
Hopefully before the end of July. We are waiting on etches (and strangely enough boxes) but should have everything else available already. There is a trial flight from Taipei to London later this month and the possibility of flights resuming next month, so I am confident of being able to get back.

I ordered a crane jib kit from Gladiator Models yesterday and it has arrived today in the post. Fantastic service!

Once I've caught up with my other projects I reckon I'll be putting another order in with Gladiator Models.

I am very impressed with not only the service but also the quality of the kit.:)

I heard today that we might get a delivery of etches at the end of next week, so all being well will have most kits back in stock in a fortnight. I have just spent the last three weeks casting whitemetal, and Trisha been busy bagging it so we now have a nice pile of kits waiting for etches....

We had a delivery of etches yesterday so the box pile is a little depleted, but regrettably only marginally so........

We now have a couple of H2s and B16s, one S15, a trio of U1's (super power triple header anyone?) and a Coal Engine as additions to stock. Other items that are currently out of stock will have to wait for the next etch delivery which will likely be October.

We will extend the intoductory offer price (£300) on the Coal Engines to cover orders until the end of September after which the standard price (£330) will apply. If you want a Coal Engine please advise whether you will model the later version with firebox washouts. If so I will drill a pilot hole in the washout locations before rolling the boiler. It will be hard to drill them once the boiler is rolled.

I am back in Taipei, writing this from a hotel room which will be my prison cell until 17 September. Three meals a day delivered to the door. Had to register my arrival with the Taiwan Center for Disease Control and give my mobile phone number which is used to trace my movements. Had a call from the local police station this morning to confirm my release date and to ensure that I keep the phone switched on and charged up and do not leave my room. The room has a new thermometer as I have to keep a record of my temperature twice a day for the duration. It all seems to work for Taiwan with few (less than 500) cases and only deaths attributable to coronavirus. Not bad in a densely packed population of 23 million.

So Trisha is holding the fort until I get back at the beginning of October. I had one piece of work to do for the job here this morning: telephone interview my replacement.

On the Gladiator front: we have put in orders for a production run of the resin bodies for the final design of Bowen-Cooke tender. I think we are going to have to change the selling structure for the big LNWR locos. You could legitimately run a Prince of Wales with, I think, at least 5 types of tender. 3 Bowen Cooke variants, Whale and Robinson. We may have to pack the tenders separately rather than stock all variants. Or with me back home full time it may well be OK to pack to order.

Keep safe.

Right, well now half way through detention and today a friend/colleague brought some reading material for me.

If you have ever wondered what a BR Mk 2 coach EMU would look like, the answer is on the cover of the orange book. No longer in regular service,I do remember travelling on these before. The internal fixtures and fittings were pure Litchurch Lane, bar the very comfortable revolving seats with vast legroom.

Just to let everyone know that Trisha and I are having a short break so that any orders placed this week will be posted next Monday.

Gladiator has a special offer - 5% discount - for items bought using the code available through the Gauge O guild show on 12 December. If it's not in stock we will honour the reduction for items reserved with a deposit. Cannot promise delivery dates though as we are still waiting on etches to complete about 200 kits......

Gladiator Models New Website

The new Gladiator website is about to go live! Addresses are the same as before so any existing links should lead you to the new site. The new site features a more user-friendly interface, better graphics, extra photos and some additional features. It shows stock levels and allows you to set an account, so your details are remembered between orders.

There are new sections for components of different types; these will be populated over the next few months. Instruction copies will be available for free download where we are permitted to do so. It will take us a little time to scan and upload these so please be patient.

As well as the existing payment interface with PayPal, which lets you use your PayPal account, credit card or debit card for payment, there are now options for payment by bank transfer or by cheque. If you select payment by bank transfer, your order will be reserved, put on hold and a reference given. You will still need to instruct your bank to make the transfer using the reference number and our account details. When payment is received, we will post the order. Similarly for payments by cheque: your purchase will be reserved until we have received the cheque and it has cleared. Our input costs are rising sharply, but we will try to hold current prices until after Guildex.

We have tried hard to test the site and de-bug it, but if you do find any broken links or strange behaviour, please let us know.

Thanks go to everyone who has provided photos for the site. We are still missing photos for some items and would be delighted if you can supply the missing ones.

The website addresses are:

Thank you!

Hi David

Well done on the website upgrade; hope it all works smoothly.
I'm in the USA, currently using an unsecure network, so a few glitches because of that but obviously nothing to do with the website.
One small observation: a typo on the homepage re the update; "We 'have have' restocked......"
(I used to do a lot of proof reading of Operations Manuals and have an eye for errors; sorry!!)

Kind regards, Rob.
