Here's a thread for anything to do with 7mm Road vehicle modelling...

Feel free to post anything related, model or 1:1 real inspiration.

I am currently building a 1980's BR Yellow Leyland Roadrunner Crew Lorry.

Starting out with this:

This kit of a Leyland/DAF T45. (Bit too modern for me!)

And this:

Matchbox diecast model from Ebay

I plan to merge the two into a reasonable representation of the real thing.

Drilling the single rivet, the cab is removed. (sorry about poor quality pictures!). It leaves a fairly crisp casting. I've cut out the rear windows and the clearance for the gearbox. Ready for filling the massive orange beacon holes in the roof.

More progress to follow....

Hmm, if I could get myself a matchbox bargain I could make this one

It's not too rare. There was quite a few to choose from when I got mine. Prices seem to start from about £2 up to about £8. I just went for the cheapest. Searching using the Superkings code, "K123" seems to turn them up. The white car transporter looked to be the most common guise.

1/43 scale vehicles are a minority.

Wow! At last! Someone taking 7mm scale lorries seriously. Nice to see a Vulcan in that list, and the reasonable prices, too.

Thanks for finding that Col.
EDIT I keep looking at the BRS Bristol HA. Very tempting indeed. I have concerns over the wheels they've used: the tyres look very knobbly, and the front axle looks very wide, but I'm sure that can be sorted out. Langley make some nice 7mm scale whitemetal wheels, too.

Heather, I'm sure the wheels and axles are not included in these kits.
I just noted that on the site. I hadn't read that far, having been gobsmacked by the actual models!:drool::drool:=o)

Still, as I say, Langley make some reasonable castings, suitable for the larger lorries (Atkinson, for example), and with some persuasion we might get Adrian Swain to make available the various Classic Commercials wheels.

The only 1:43 (well 1:48 actually) road vehicles I have built are the Tamyia Citröen 11CV and Austin 'Tilly'; and a Verlinden Opel Blitz truck. I thinking of purchasing another one of the latter to convert to a Bedford truck.

A photo of the Citröen and Tilly is below (apologies for poor quality as this was taken on my phone). It was shot outdoors on a small diorama I made.

I have 2 of these 4 wheeled diggers, need to source some rubber tyres, I am looking at DCC lights rotating and rotating body.
