Scraps in the cupboard

image.jpeg image.jpeg John, when you asked about this old dumb buffered timber wagon I said it was made from a photograph.
So I went back and had another look at it. To my horror I had made a mistake regarding the bolster. I have made it as a large one piece but looking again I can clearly see it is in two pieces. It also shows it without the metat stanchions because it is being loaded with a large signal post. Now it the top part just a packing extra plank to raise it to the required height for the load or was it part of the original bolster. If so were there metal stanchions there at all when it was built ?
So I have made another that looks a lot more like the photo.
Having this wagon built about 4 years ago I can now see a few improvements like the iron capping on the sides I made this from 10 thou strip where I now use 5 thou and the brake rack looks a little bit squashed. I now put a packing strip in when I fold the brake rack up which also gives it a bit more strength. Just little improvements over time make a difference you eye tends not see unless you have to go back and look again.

Hi Mike if you happen to look at this.BEFORE I glue this together have I got this right .I noticed on the drawing that the rails that the bolster pivots on is secured by bolts which I would imagine are countersunk which I have done .your comments are welcome

Graham, I am afraid I didn't go as far as doing the layers. I just used one piece. Now i will have to go and stand in the corner, reputaion ruined must try harder.
As for the drawing I think it is one piece of wood with a chamfer on the edge with an iron plate runner on top.
John that looks good to me.

An update on the timber trucks I did stop posting quite as many photos as I wasn't sure if I was over doing it.Anyway here is an update on progress they aren't perfect and there are probably faults but I am quite pleased .This was only to see if I could possibly scratch build a wagon and whether it could be. Done with the few bits of plasticard that I had in the cupboard
