With its punched-in nose, unsophisticated style and purposeful gait, the original railway fleet version of the Scammell Mechanical Horse had the air of a pensioned-off boxer. In service these distinctive railway road vehicles certainly proved that they could take plenty of punishment. Gerry Beale wanted an example, specifically to cart containers - and he chose a 7mm Phoenix kit to fill the bill.
