I have two dropside opens, one van and one brake van. All are in light grey, from Rapido. That should cover the goods stock requirements for my modest aspirations.

The work on Ranelagh Bridge is still stuttering along and now the temperature seems to have dropped for a bit, I'm hoping for a more sustained period of progress to get bigger chunks done, thus freeing up time for other, more personal, things.

As a complete aside ( and, no, I'm not buying one ) , the Rapido 4mm/00 USATC S160s arrived in the shop today. They are simply superb. Smooth and quiet straight from the box with copious amounts of fine detail and a real presence.
As good as it currently gets in ready to run world.

Indeed - all I can say is thank goodness I made myself promise not to collect any (more) 4mm stuff while I try to get my head around 7mm.
Mind you on a similar theme, look what turned up here a few weeks ago - now how on earth is that going to fit into the scheme of things........
I saw one yesterday; what struck me was how compact the loco is, given that it's a 2-8-0.
I wonder whether some USATC rolling stock will follow?

It would look compact, this was small by US standards. Although destined for use in Europe from D-Day it was built to British loading gauge and naturally had a wide route availability. Their history is interesting.
You would hope so, the USATC bogie tank cars which saw use in the UK and the USATC four wheel wagons, vans and brake vans.
What I find amusing was the mystique surrounding the real S160s back in the 1980s with, stories of secrecy, strategic reserves, etc., whereas now you can pop in your local model shop and buy one in 00!
I've got a few USATC wagons in the H0 collection, they seem really small! About 25 years ago I used to have more (Sachsenmodelle and possibly Kleinbahn; the current ones are Roco). At one time I thought about something based on a mythical island in the Channel with leftover USATC plus other things, though there was some USATC stuff on at least one French secondaire IIRC. I suppose a 00 continental line could be fun...quite a few French-prototype kits for 60cm stuff were 009 rather than H0e as it makes the track gauge a bit less incorrect so perhaps an interchange in Northern France with a sugar beet line using Bachmann ex-WD stuff would work.
All getting into the realms of fantasy a bit, so best I go to sleep

I have the Roco HO S160 and some Kleinbahn bogie tank cars and Sachsenmodell and Roco 4w vans. The USATC bogie vans, flats and gondolas produced by Fleischmann were a WWI design.

Evening all,
I'm still battling with Ranelagh Bridge and may have some images tomorrow. However, they won't really show a huge difference, though believe me, quite a bit of time has been spent thereon.
However, a trip to a 'homestyle' type of shop saw me exit with a lump of wood, sustainable Tunisian Olive wood to be accurate.
This will form the basis for a tuning fork type of diorama which is really all I want for the 009 project at present.
Any scenic treatment will be kept to a bare minimum, to allow some of the lovely wood to show through.
