Steve,
A real shame, but I do know where you are. You've got a great 7mm project though, and I know how these things can be diversions...
More power to your elbow; I hope (and suspect) it's the right choice for you.

At the Trent Valley Show near Lichfield last week, there was an N Scale modular group running the sort of trains you like - long double-stacks, autoracks, etc. My lad & I counted over 50 cars in a unit coal train. The modules took up the whole of one wall of the Community Center though - so although "no room for N Scale" sounds a bit strange, it's all about the context it's to be used in, & to depict long trains does need a long layout!!
Fully sympathise with the dilemma; sometimes some things just have to go...

That and the reality is I don't do much with it anymore either - it was started before I moved to O gauge and my eyesight was better than it is now:(

Yes that's exactly it I choose N as I hoped I could get the long trains in I desired but that isn't the case now &
I can't sacralise any of RB as that has to be done properly and with easy access to certain points of the layout which just doesn't leave enough room to do what I wanted & that coupled with issue of getting to the point motors comfortably has made the project a non starter.
It's a shame I've been very impressed with the detail especially on the Kato coaches.
