Holywell P4

Started this some 12 months ago , as a branch terminus from a junction on my round and round layout, and is based on the article etc. in BRJ and Modelling Railways Illustrated (1995).
I needed to have the entry on the left as per plan (see Adrian's thread ) but wanted the viewing side to show the station buildings etc. from the platform side. Unfortunately the gradient required in order to clear the fiddle yard above which it sits proved to be too steep at the 3ft radius on the approach.
I revised my (lack of) thinking to make it a stand alone layout.
Consequence of this faffing about is a mirror flipped (front to back ) plan.
A friend pointed me to this web site a couple of weeks ago as there were some good photos that I might like to see relating to Holywell.
What a revelation ! Adrian's thread is superb and having replied to some points raised and learned more about Holywell I thought I might show what I've done so far.
The track is all done ,( sorry Dog Star , your photos and perceptive comments post dated my track laying )
turnouts op. by servo / wire in tube , wagon brake in loop is 0.5mm wire pushed up by servo to catch the axle just inboard of the brake blocks , mock up buildings in place and a start made on the bridge.
If I've done this right there should be a few pictures attached.

Nicely realised, so nicely realised, in fact, it's a wonder that's no one has done this before. The bridge is presumably laser-scribed MDF?

Thanks for posting that - I'll be interested in see this develop. From the stock shown is it safe to presume you're going for pre-grouping era?

Consequence of this faffing about is a mirror flipped (front to back ) plan.
Having looked at the plan so many times this is causing my head to hurt. It feels recognisable but different, perhaps I need to look at the photo's in a mirror.

I think I was coming round to this idea as being the most expedient - it's good to know it's already been tested.

Now all we need to do is convince Dogstar to build a version in Scale7 :))

All the best

If I had the space, I'd be tempted to do an S7 (BR Western Region), version myself.

p.s. - The P4 version looks quite peculiar as a mirror image.

p.p.s. - Any chance of making the images bigger please?

Pre-grouping yes , without the carbuncle of the luggage lift . I like the bridge as it was in your postcard and inn later days which , from the sparse vegetation on the right (my left !), looks to be quite early days. I will include the "gents" which is not on that pic. either.

Edit by Steve Cook to tidy up quotes for clarity.

When you construct your post, you should see at the top of your list of attached files an extra icon with a box with 'Insert every image as a' - then choice of thumbnail or full image box - see below.

Just click on the full image box before you post and they should come up. Alternatively you can click on 'full size' against each image. Screen Shot 2015-01-19 at 19.47.05.png

You should be able to edit your post and click this box. Liking the bridge!!

Thanks for the info re pictures etc and to Steve Cook for tidying my previous ragbag posts.
Sorry but little more progress on the bridge and slow with replies, Attacked by inflamed pancreas .
Hoping to get up to the railway room soon.

I am saddened to have to let you know that John Bailey (jbail) died yesterday afternoon from pancreatic cancer. A fine modeller and engineer, he designed the Scalefour Society lever frame kit much admired by many. He kept working on his layouts for as long as his health allowed, as shown by this thread. Sadly time ran out. He was a good friend and I shall miss him greatly.

Thank you very much for letting us know, I was really sad to hear of his passing.

I was looking forward to discussing and exchanging notes on Holywell Town with John, alas that chance is no more. I'm glad to have seen the few brief postings that he was able to make and I hope that you have some fond memories of him.

RIP John.
