The model is of the later version of the loco with an enclosed cab and deeper bufferbeams......methinks a 1:32 industrial micro layout featuring this and a few waggins may be on the cards ;)

Looks good- I like the possibility of a Micro-layout...!!

Any chance of a picture of it with something else. to give an idea of size.?

Ermmmm......like what ? 'Tis a small loco even in 1:32 ie 130mm long over the buffers, 97mm rail to top of cab and 64mm wide ....the wheel diameter is 24mm ......in all smaller than the average wagon.....compact and bijou, as they say :)

Ah, bodger calling

It looks like this when parked next to a Class 22 and some other bigger stuff. Not that John's model is likely to ever meet any of these at World's End Quay (well, not while he's looking anyway  )

Although John has shown the later variant the dimensions are identical to mine.

Joking apart, congratulations John on a really lovely looking model.

I hope you sell lots of them.

For all those WR types there is always DS1169 to consider, complete with BR carriage roundel in its latter years at Yeovil I think.

Thanks for the pic Simon- it looks like an O scale loco mixed in with that line up!! In fact from John's dimensions it sounds as if it's shorter than my O scale Class 14....

This might give you an idea of the Ruston's size , photo of it next to an O gauge 3F tank............

I reckon you might be able to push the boat out and could get away with 5 x 1 (scenic) if you can cope with pushing single wagons around..mmmm...

Lovely model though John, absolutely lovely
Are you taking orders yet :D

Very prototypical....the real thing would probably struggle pulling 2 wagons!!....check out YouTube...put 'Ruston 48DS' in their search bit and check out a poor 48DS trying to shift a 48ton Sentinel shunter......not for the sqeamish!!

Are you taking orders yet :D

I still have the instructions to do, but am aiming to have it available end August

Hi John,

many thanks for the quick response. Is that a 'tensioned' on the delrin, is it necessary with the sprung hornblocks?

regards

Mike

Mike,

The hornblocks are not sprung.......I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible (I also have a hatred of those tiny springs used in hornblock assemblies) and therefore it has a plain three point suspension system, the rear axle being the rocker.
The delrin chain is raised slightly to take up the slack......when assembling it the removal or leaving in of one link is the difference between it being dead tight or the lower length hanging down near enough rail level. The spockets are pinned to the respective axles and, one the whole, it all runs beautifully........ ;)
