As a ten year old Tolkien nerd when the book hit our shelves in Australia my only disappointment was that the teaser extract with Frito and the lusty elf-maiden at the front was made up and not part of the book at all! Curses!
Subsequently working in America opened my eyes to how many of the names and sayings had been cleverly lifted from American products or adverts.

I bought my sister an anti-clockwise clock many years ago, it's still up in her kitchen and always provides a talking point.

Indeed - useful for visitors to a specific location but if you are a local I guess you develop your own built-in tide clock.
The RNLI shop sells them.
Do you think they should be set to Greenwich Mean Tide?

Well, yes & no. I’m sure I would if I were at the port every week, but unfortunately I’m still at work, so it’s holidays only.

After a week or two, I’ve got into the groove but a clock wouldn’t hurt.

Chances are there’s an app for the smart phone…
