Yeah, you do have to sit back and look at the bigger picture after the initial rant stage has passed.

Limited edition, top of the catalogue museum quality model with full lighting and smoke effects, plus lit display case.

The deflector bracket straps are a total write off, you can see where someone has tried to solder them on the inside, luckily the deflector material is quite thick so it hasn't rippled/buckled them but straightening them almost certainly will. I'll remove the lacquer, unsolder and make new ones.

The smoke box front looks like a broken lug on the inside at the top, luckily the smoke box door opens when you release all the locking lugs, it does reveal the big ugly smoke generator.

Oh yes, fast, powerful high speed freight engines.

The deflector brackets are actually cast and quite mailable and held in place with small 2.5 mm bolts but the solder repair will put the one out of position once all straightened so that has to be undone and refixed. The actual smokebox brackets are also cast with two small pins bent over and held in place with glue. That has saved it all as they have flexed and taken the brunt of the impact.

Super model despite the packing damage etc. Very frustrating. I noticed on the first photo a mudhole door cover is missing, hopefully it is somewhere in the packing although it won't be beyond you to produce one.

Nice shot, I'm looking to mark mine up as a Bw Rheine loco as well

Yes there's a washout cover missing, I've not seen it in the box but not had a detailed look and it might have slid under one of the cardboard end flaps so to speak. I've just had receipt of the original web site photos so will check to see if it was there before shipping and what other damage there was and then what caused by the poor packing.

There's also a brake shoe/hanger assembly that's dropped off but that is in the box as is the cab roof spoiler, spare guard irons and steam heat hose for the tender once I remove the Frankenstein coupling, I'll need to source a new Marklin three link one to fit at some point.

Those four long control rods down the side of the boiler are soft brass as well and will never straighten so those are coming out to be replaced with NS wire.


I'm also missing at least two small securing screws, one for the pipework under the cab and one for the connecting rod safety bar; possibly a CSK 1mm screw.


I'm also not very happy with the valve gear, it's very thin and has masses of side play/slop, in fact the main drivers have a huge amount of side play (3-4 mm), probably to get around Count Von Otto's Xmas tree and WTF is that great big cheese head screw doing in the eccentric crank. All in all the motion is very play set and at odds with the quality of the rest of the model.







I have the works drawings for the Br41, not all of them, but I do have the main motion bits and some sundries, sadly this one for the connecting rod is not the clearest but I think I can work up some bigger/fatter rods; plus, the eccentric rod is cast brass and made of butter, it's been bent/straightened so many times from handling that it's never going to visually true. The piston rod is also brass (bluurghh) that's coming off and NS rod refitted.
