Model Railway Journal

Unfortunately the publishers haven't kept up with the times and I will have to try and find a cheque book, if I can remember what one looks like and post them a cheque for half a years subscription. I suspect that they aren't taking a full years subscription because the don't want to commit to a years publication. I do hope they sort out an easier way of paying for a subscription and this will be the catalyst for Cygnet Magazines to offer online shopping but luckily I did manage to find a cheque book, I just hope the Banks continue issuing them.
I think this might be where the MRJ staff deal with subscribers…

In issue 309 the Small Suppliers section publicised Peter Simpkins's casting from R de Camin moulds of some GWR vehicles. Unfortunately it gave the wrong email address so the good Mr Simpkins will have thought there was no interest in his offer.

Issue 310 gave a corrected email address ... which bounced when I tried to use it!

Does anyone have a definitive email for Peter Simpkins? You know, one that actually works?

310 looks a good issue. Pages 38/39 have some wagons weathered by Paul Karau. While the aim of the exercise is to show the quality of RTR vs kit built wagons, it would have been useful to include a line or two about what colours were used in the process - they look great.

A friend was queuing in her bank to pay in some cheques last Friday when there was a kerfuffle behind her.
She turned round to see an old gentleman had just joined the back of the queue - with a wheelbarrow full of cash!
Quickly she spun around (it was someone we both know…….)
We did wonder if the subject of money-laundering came up :))

I don't see the point of keeping money in the bank, unless you've got multiple 6 figure sums, the interest is not worth the fuel driving to the bank in the first place !

Enjoyed the latest edition of MRJ #315, although mainly 2FS and smaller !, the level of model making and detail puts some 7mm stuff I've seen exhibited to shame.

If you get a tax refund from HMRC it will be by cheque and if you get a refund on your car tax (when you sell it) it will also be a cheque from DVLC.
Not necessarily so.

All my VED refunds from DVLA have been paid back into my bank account. I only pay VED on a month-by-month basis. Via direct debit.
[AKA daylight robbery?]

This suits my very limited pension income better. At one time I ran 2 daily dwivers....but only taxed one at a time. Depending on time of year, & impending tasks to be performed.
However, to help out a neighbour whose work vehicle went down frequently, I would loan him the untaxed vehicle, simply going online and taxing it. Sometimes I would have SORNed it, only to find three weeks later the neighbour needed getting out of trouble.

Also by taxing monthly, if I should suffer a near catastrophic downturn, then the vehicle can be de-taxed instantly, if it's not going to be used for some time. I see no sense in the State having some of my income without purpose. I leave that sort of stunt to the more 'well-orff'' citizens.

I have had tax refunds usually via a change of tax code.

Re the wheelbarrow full of cash, last week I went to the bank with 2 suitcases full of cash. Not money laundering but money from charity collection boxes (RNLI) that hadn't been emptied for a while. So not everything is what it may seem to be. Sorry to be extending off topic.

Don't apologise, shows the ongoing need for accessible banking.
Knowing the person concerned we imagine the wheelbarrow was more for effect...... :))

And most of that would have been a result of money-raising for the church.
