Wagons and Filth

Thanks all
They all look great, what technique did you use on the minerals?
Mark
The minerals involved weathering powders mixed with decalfix painted onto the wagon sides. Rust colours etc. Maskol was applied to areas hen acrylic grey paint painted over. The maskol areas are picked away revealing the rust and water used to reactivate the decalfix so rust appears to bleed through areas of paint.

The rust effect on the mineral looks really good but is it a bit over the top for a working wagon? To my eyes more like that seen on withdrawn vehicles which haven’t moved for a while.

Ian.

Arguably yes Ian. In the 70s and 80s possibly not. Perhaps the level of flaking is a bit heavy. This is not the best photo but shows a darker choice of rusting. Although the scratches are a bit contrived
