The lights are simply stuck to a foamboard backing at the moment. I didn't notice any significant heat gain when in use at the exhibition, which is probably the longest they have been on continuously. They were probably only running at around half of their full power as the ambient hall lighting was pretty good. I'll continue to monitor this in use but so far, no issues.

Hi Jeremy. One of the issues I have discovered with LED lighting strips is they can get very hot (all those internal resistors). How have you mounted the strips?

I’ve just ordered a similar set from Amazon and noted the bullet point: ‘Safe to touch’ - ‘……emits extremely low heat so touchable for kids and cute pets’.

Hope that helps.

Wheal Elizabeth will be at Pendon again this weekend (6/7 December) as part of their China Clay exhibition.

Details from their Facebook page as follows:

This weekend will be our last opening weekend before Christmas and what better way to celebrate the festive season than with a special running exhibition! We'll have two visiting layouts; Andrew Ullyott's 'Wheal Elizabeth' courtesy of Jeremy Good and 'Newton Heath Works' by Mike Baker and Martin Finney. We also hope to run a couple of exhibition themed trains on the Dartmoor scene; a Class 37 with a short rake of CDA wagons and a Class 25 with a short train of clay hoods. There is no additional charge (standard museum entry fees apply) and we'll be open from 11am with last entry 3.15pm.
