On Saturday 24 January 2015, the Wickwar Brewery is having an open day to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the last passenger train to call at Wickwar Station. The stopping service between Bristol and Gloucester ended on 4th January 1965 and the line's intermediate local stations including Yate, Wickwar and Charfield then closed. The rail served brewery was a significant feature adjacent to the station's goods yard at Wickwar.

The event will be held in the brewery's historic 1860's brewhouse at The Old Brewery, Station Road, Wickwar, Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire GL12 8NB. Open 11am to 3pm. There is parking on site. Entrance is free.

An event brew is promised for the day and the Brewery Shop will also be open.

There will be a railway related display on the top floor of the brewhouse including:

Farnham & District Model Railway Club's 'N Gauge', scale model of Wickwar

I took The End of the Line to the Wickwar Brewery open day. The event was well attended and there is a good chance that something similar may happen again next year.

Here is the venue (in N gauge).

The view inside the brewhouse. You can see those large arched windows allowing the light to flood in.

The special brew to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the last train to call at Wickwar Station was appropriated called 'The Last Train'. At 3.8% is was a very drinkable brew :).

If you believe a press photo from the local newspaper that covered the event on 4 January 1965, the last service was hauled by (Class 45) D64 'Coldstream Guardsman'.

It was my first outing with The End of the Line and it performed well and provided a good opportunity to train up some operators and test the lorries and stock for next weeks show in Yate.
