Backscene creation aid!

At work we were discussing the latest Star Wars film and I'd heard that some of it had been filmed in the Lake District - Link here if required. Star Wars at Thirlmere / Derwentwater in the Lake District - ColinBell.Photography

Anyway this mentioned a couple of online facilities he used for generating the landscape drawings of peaks. My immediate thought was it might be useful for generating outline drawings for back scenes.

So for example Peak finder PeakFinder - 360° Panoramic Mountain View
coniston_west.JPG
Coniston_south.JPG

or Generate a panorama
coniston_panorama.JPG

Both sites allow you to set the view point and camera height - although the panorama sight is a little more flexible in that you can set precisely the viewing direction and camera angle.

Hopefully this might be useful to some.

Superb bit of kit, well done for pointing it out. The black outlines indicate air gap behind, so they can then be separated and made as overlapping layers. the landscape can be added in from period OS maps. Perfect if you like scenic work and distance illusion. Screen Shot 2015-12-17 at 20.31.32.png Screen Shot 2015-12-17 at 20.31.08.png

Glad it was of some use.

I don't know if it helps but have you noticed that the panorama website does have the option of "range of sight (km)" so you might be able to use that to generate the layers.

Absolutely, they can be added and then compressed progressively from layout scale to flat as their 'distance' increases. It's such a quick, flexible way to generate a virtual backscene surface. A canvas to build the landscape features onto.
