I started this way back in January 2009, but for various reasons I was unable to finish it. Practicly the only work required was to permanantly fit the arms, connect everything up and paint it. John Brighton, who is better known for his loco's did that, and he has made a fine job of my bit of "Rough Iron". The main post is two etches soldered "End On", the bracket are homemade from sheet with a piercing saw and file. Photo attached, as it left me, and after John had complited it.

I think that looks really great Mick - and there's a lot of work in it too!!

Mike, thanks for your kind words, all I had to go on was a couple of photos, and the fact a standard UQ signal arm is 5ft 3in overall, and from that one dimension, I managed to construct, a "Near Scale" drawing. Mick.

Thanks for all the kind words. The signal is "Black Bess", of Grantham.

That's interesting and unusual Mick - what's the story behind the signal being called 'Black Bess?'

- is it something to do with the gallows nature of the bracket??

Cheers

Mike

Mike, I don't have a clue why it was locally known as "Black Bess". I was given a couple of photo's and asked to make it. I'm sure someone living in the area could give you an answer.
