Hi,

I popped up to Telford IPMS a couple of weeks ago and came away with an incredibly useful tool for handling etched and small parts. What's more is that it's very cheap. I'm not sure what it's made out of but it has enough tack to hold without leaving any residue. The best tool I've come across in years!

What a great idea! Its a chinagraph pencil - its wax so thorough cleaning required before priming and painting. Amusingly known in germany as a "nerd pen"

I'm not sure it is you know. I tried marking the black card and nothing happened - no marks at all.

Chinagraph pencils are easily identified - they say 'CHINAGRAPH' in big letters on the side! I have one here as I write.

Just tried it and it glides across leaving not a trace, even finger print powder wouldn't detect it. So useful for adding glazing too like the emergency engine stop panes on diesels. Must be a new chemical formula. It's a cross between rubbery and waxy in texture. Perhaps a 'Chemical wizard nerd' pencil?

What a good idea. A quick browse on Amazon and it appears the pick-up pencils are quite commonly used for people who work with beads etc. to make costume jewellery.

We use "chinagraph " pencils at work for marking optical lenses . I make specs by the way, although we seem to use "fine " marker pens a lot at the moment which are cheaper and work just as well.

That is a brilliant tool, thanks for letting us know about it. I will get some next time I am in Blighty.
It looks ideal for picking up those Scale Hardware nuts and bolts too.

Hi, a box laden with some tools arrived from Japan yesterday. I haven't used all yet but this one, the Mr Hobby sander aka toothbrush sander, is amazing. How I've lived without one for so long I don't know. Unlike a sander you poke in a mini drill this one is half the size, and at 45 degrees from the shaft making it perfect for getting into awkward areas. You can get 600, 800, and 1000 grade discs for it and it requires 2 AA batteries.
