Greystar Publications have just cancelled my reoccurring PayPal subscription without an accompanying email. Is something up? It would be a terrible shame if issue 1 was just a one hit wonder.

I understand PayPal have a habit of doing this. It may be nothing to do with Greystar at all.

It might be worth a call to the editorial office or publishers if you are worried about it.

Everyone got issue 2?

I found it disappointing after issue 1. The article on weathering could have been brilliant, but weathering a black loco, using shades of black? It just became un-seeable, if there is such a word.
Hope issue 3 is better.

I've got it.

I enjoyed it. The articles on the Tyne hoppers, inset track and motorised crossing gates were good, and given enough space to do them justice. I agree though, the weathering article didn't work.

I was thinking that with the 9Fs about at the moment, a mixed media Tyne hopper like the one in 4mm would go very nicely in 7mm.

I thought issue 2 was very good, enjoyed the inset track article and the radial axle box on the S7 F tank.
Nice to see some prototype photo's in with the modelling ones, this is just what a modelmaker's mag should be like, I think they have got it right.

See, there is the thing Jeff - mags are a game of chance if you subscribe, as there was very little for me in Issue 1 but for me this is a great issue and I'm sure I will read almost everything in it! Just the opposite .

Ah but he didn't just buy 20 Mineral wagons! There were also 10 tankers, 12 Cat/Dogfish & several individual wagons + 11 Mk.1 coaches. Five years of building is the estimate I was given, though it depends on how many 25 hours per day/8 day weeks you put in.

BTW Jeff - how did you get to alter my quotation in your reply? - where did I say 'a man of means'??? That is not what I said.

It's easy enough to do in the reply box to edit a quote, but in the spirit of playing nicely I would hope that as general courtesy people would start by saying something long the lines of "I've corrected your post for you" to make it obvious that the quote has been modified. Again the usual convention is to use the strike through to show what has been replaced.

Whilst waiting for my copy of Finescale No.2 to arrive I have been strolling through the current issue of Narrow Gauge and Industrial Railway Modelling review - the bumper issue No.100 courtesy of Mr. Locomodels' subscription.

What an eye-opener! Bob Barlow is building his version of a 50 year old classic, a tiny Welsh hamlet alongside an estuary(?). Beautiful buildings, wonderful placement in relation to the quayside and the lane leading onto high ground, great views between and through features. Worth the cover price for this layout... there are other good features.

Please go and see for yourself.
