After far too long being sat in a display cabinet on top of my bookcase, I took it into my head to take 34014 to the Club this afternoon to give it a blow

on the turntable at Moss End.

What happened next.........

the Chairman turns up with 21C6 P&O Line

which he purchased earlier this week and wanted to see it run!

Both locos then moved over to the continuous run layout Wirral Parkway and both enjoyed the half hour running session. The first run that mine had had since I adjusted the front bogie nearly five years ago.

regards

Mike

From an aesthetic point of view, it's a matter of personal taste, but from an engineering and operational view it's definitely the modified version. BR didn't spend all the money on modification for no good reason or to upset enthusiasts.
Have to declare an interest (see avatar).

My favourite steam locomotives, for me the re-built ones were both nicer and better, but I also love the various air-smoothed styles. P&O SN Co is one I would love to have in model form.
