The first signal for the new Dawlish project has been completed by Jon FitnessIMG_8398.jpeg
Meanwhile on the KESR diorama the polystyrene has been carved and mounted on 9mm ply, cut shaped and covered in backing plaster and the road made up out of tile grout, I’ll let this harden for a day and set about sanding it on Thursday. IMG_8400.jpeg

Complete tangent from modelling - what resin and hardener are you using? I've been making some laser-cut items for my sisters cafe in Crosshills. I've been trying to fill some of the decoration with coloured resin but the resin - hardener combination I'm using is f***ing frustrating. The recommended ratio is taking 2 days to harden and soaks into the wood. If I bump up the hardener ratio it solidifies too quickly and doesn't settle to a smooth finish. I need an alternative source that people can recommend.

Thanks for that - from the size of the bottles I'm guessing it's a 50:50 mix of resin to hardener. I've got various colour pigments for the job I want to do but the resin I'm using needs 2% to 4% hardener and in the small quantities I'm using it's difficult to estimate 4% hardener.

Yes it’s a 50/50 ratio. For timber I would mix a small amount first and brush it in to the exposed surface and allow that to harden and then do the main pour.

I’ve used West System epoxy resin (to fill cracks and voids in oak table tops), sourced from these people from whom I received excellent service.
Metering dispenser pumps make easy job of volumetric delivery.
Quantities may be large but cost not necessarily much more than small quantity supplies.
There must be something in their range that would be ideal for you.

I’ve used WEST resins - “Wood Epoxy Saturation Technique” for boat bits. Worked well, there’s lots of stuff on the W3
